MLB  > General MLB  > Brewers / Royals trade?
July 6, 2009, 12:17 PM
The Brewers are currently seeking an upgrade for Bill Hall .202 avg and Cory Hart .249. What about a trade for Mark Teahen? I would hate to see him leave the Royals, but the Brewers have two young prospects at a position of surplus, that would fill a couple of huge holes for Kansas City. How about Mark Teahen and for Alcides Escobar, SS, and Brett Lawrie, C? The Brewers would be trading young talent for a guy who fits in their current and long-term plans immediately. Teahen can play 3B, RF, 2B or 1B. He's a proven everyday player that is coming into his own at age 27. He's currently hitting .292 with 9 HRs and 17 doubles.

The 22 year old Escobar is hitting .302 in the minors with 23 doubles, 5 triples and 28 stolen bases. Brett Lawrie is batting .273 in low A ball. It will take a long time for him to develop and make his way to the majors. This trade would benefit the Brewers and immediately improve their playoff chances. It would hurt KC immediately because it would strip them of their best overall player, but would bring a young short stop and catcher in return. The Royals have to get better up the middle before they have any chance for success. Thoughts?
