MLB  > General MLB  > Giants / Royals Trade?
July 6, 2009, 12:40 PM
The Giants' Randy Johnson is having an MRI on his shoulder today. He's in his forties and his ERA has reached 4.81. The Giants are still 1 1/2 games ahead of Milwaukee in the playoffs. Why not go after a proven veteran to replace Johnson and help the team for the stretch run. While you're at it, why not get an upgrade in the outfield and at the plate by adding a guy with some pop?

Why not trade Starting Pitcher Gil Meche and Right Fielder Jose Guillen to the Giants in exchange for prospects Madison Bumgarner and Roger Kieschnick? Meche is a veteran pitcher for the Royals staff and would do beautifully with a good defense behind him as the third or fourth pitcher on the staff. Guillen would could start in RF in place of Winn and would add depth to the roster immediately. Bumgarner is the premier player in the Giants minor league system. He's a 19 year old left hander with great stuff. Kieschnick is the 10th best prospect in the system, but is a 21 one year old left handed hitter with the potential to be a good everyday player. These are the kinds of guys that you mortgage your stars for. It would also clear 22 million from the Royals books and allow the Royals to spend money on a star or two in the off season.
