Each day during the noon hour, we'll offer five reading recommendations from around the Web.

1. Twin Cities radio duo: Magic fakes having AIDS (By Paul Walsh, Minneapolis Star-Tribune): Co-hosts of a conservative talk radio show have drawn fire for saying Magic Johnson "faked AIDS." Nice! Media Matters comes through with the audio.

2. Facts about Manny Ramirez (By Joe Sheehan, Baseball Prospectus): The author contrasts fact with ... er, Tim McCarver.

3. Cuban: Financial crisis will slow Cubs sale (By Rick Morrissey, Chicago Tribune): The owner of the Mavericks, in Chicago on Thursday for his team's preseason game with the Bulls, told reporters the shaky economic situation will change the math in Tribune Company's sale of the Cubs.

4. Palin's puck drop shameful (By Larry Brooks, New York Post): Gov. Sarah Palin will drop the ceremonial first puck when the Flyers play their home opener Saturday as an homage to hockey moms. One writer thinks it's shameful.

5. Northwestern tickets a tough sell (By Teddy Greenstein, Chicago Tribune): The NU football team, unbeaten through five games for the first time since 1962, is struggling to put fannies in the seats.

How is this Shameful?

Anything the voice of the Democratic party can do to put down the Republicans.

October 10, 2008  02:18 PM ET

Larry is obviously a democrat, as most media types are. If he was a republican, there would be no story. Endorsing candidates is as old as politics. Actually by writing this story, Larry is endorsing his preferred candidate. Shame on you Larry.

It's shameful for Palin to drop a puck? Give me a break. Palin Derangement Syndrome at work.

Re: Magic, what's shameful is these two idiots spouting off and making themselves look like fools.

October 10, 2008  02:48 PM ET

If it wasnt for Rush, Sean, or Laura we would all be screwed.

October 10, 2008  02:50 PM ET

I wasn't aware that Magic Johnson ever had AIDS. I thought he had HIV.

Yes, the two are different. And the radio guys are clowns.

October 10, 2008  02:56 PM ET

Those Radio guys/one lady you talk of are Brilliant.

October 10, 2008  02:59 PM ET

Magic was on the down low for a long time

Sorry you were talking about 1.

Magic Johnson is my hero!!!

October 10, 2008  03:11 PM ET

What purpose could Magic even conceivably have had in faking that? Right wing morons, just like their VP choice (and that is why it is shameful).

October 10, 2008  03:11 PM ET

The Palin puck drop is billed as a honor to "hockey moms." It is nothing more then a cheap stunt by the Repubican owner of the Flyers to get his honey in the news and the use games' pregame as a Republican pep rally. But "shameful" might be too strong a word. Anyway, who cares about McCains spokes model? The sooner they lose the election and that brain dead **** returns to obscurity, the better.

Because she is a moron and the most unqualified person to ever run for elected office on this level. McCain is a cancer survivor and he put this bible beating, winking, bigot in the co-pilot's seat where she clearly has no business being. Her whole being is shameful. Anyone who endorses it or allows her an avenue of expression is shameful.

Wanted, either way your comment was welcomed.

Matched only by the NY fan.

Yeah we definitely need an ultra liberal idiot like Obama running the country whose platform is "Hope" and "Change" without a single substantial idea.

it's always good to know someone is being voted in because of the color of his skin and his manipulative abilities.

Better then another four years of Republins shouting "BABIES, GUNS AND JESUS" and all the rednecks barking and clapping their flippers like a bunch of circus seals.

You sir are nothing more then the brown stain on societies underpants. Go yank off to your hope and change and hope and change. Go visit all "57 states" while your at it. Who's the real moron now, for believing in nothing but garbage from the Choosen One.
