Texas QB Colt McCoy avenged last season's loss to OU.
AP

Some telling numbers in No. 5 Texas’ thrilling 45-35 victory over top-ranked Oklahoma Saturday in the Cotton Bowl:

48 -- Rushing yards by Oklahoma. The Sooners were unable to establish the run, averaging a mere 1.8 yards for their 26 carries.

161 -– Rushing yards by Texas. Chris Ogbonnaya was responsible for 127 of them, including a 62-yard scamper that set up the touchdown to make it a 10-point game late in the fourth quarter.

.800 -– Completion percentage by Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, who connected on 28 of his 35 passes.

20 –- Combined receptions by Texas wide receivers Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley. The two amassed 234 yards in receiving and 401 total yards, including a 96-yard kick return by Shipley for a touchdown.

37:10 -– Time of possession by Texas.

3 -– Number of times Oklahoma failed to convert on fourth down.

Why exactly is it the Red River Rivalry, was Red River Shootout politically incorrect?

October 11, 2008  08:14 PM ET

Who knows. All I know is that the officiating was horrendous.

Who thought with that OU interception in the end zone, the player had control of the ball. From what I saw he did. You're right the officiating sucked. I think with correct calls on the field by the refs, OU would have walked away with the W.

Yeah, the interception call was bad. But so was that horrendous roughing the kicker call on UT, and some of the personal fouls called for shoving someone out of bounds were rough too. Bad calls for both sides.

There was no roughing the kicker call. It was running into the kicker, a mere 5 yard penalty. The 2 personal foul calls against Travis Lewis when he was trying to hold Colt McCoy up were way worse.

The bottom line is that the Sooners got outplayed in the 2nd half. It happens.

Disclaimer: I am a Sooner fan. My Hook 'em horns slogan is the result of losing today's bet.

Whining about the refs? Typical. There were calls on both sides. Man up, whipe the tears away and get ready for next week!
TEX WON, GAME OVER.
OU isn't out of the hunt his year, stop crying and get ready for #16 Kansas.

October 11, 2008  11:22 PM ET

the roughing the passer call was bad, but colt slipped, in real time it did kinda look like he was pushed. i missed the interception, so i cant comment on that (damn you 1 AM start time). bad calls happen in every game, get over it. OU was out played, plain and simple. good game though.

October 12, 2008  12:40 AM ET

In College you have to control the ball even when you hit the ground. Not right, but right call. HOOK EM

October 12, 2008  12:59 AM ET

That voided interception only resulted in a field goal -- three points, and Texas won by 10. If it was so bad, why didn't Stoops ask for a review? Riddle me that?

The running into the kicker penalty was also a bad call (like the announcers said, the guy should get a Heisman for acting), but OU couldn't capitalize on the extra set of downs. Texas was clearly the better team this year.

October 12, 2008  01:24 AM ET

I'm not sure but I think there were at least four players from the state of Oklahoma playing for the sooners today. Thats an improvement.

Herbstreit and Musburger had no clue what they were talking about. Knall had already been injured on Oklahoma's previous fake punt attempt. Yeah, he was barely bumped, but his injury was legit. Besides, a bad running into the kicker call that is worth 5 yards is no comparison to a bad personal foul call that is worth 15 yards and an automatic first down.

Nevertheless, as I said before, Oklahoma got outplayed. The halftime analysts jinxed the Sooners with all the talk about how Texas was lucky to still be in the game. Hopefully, the Longhorns will lose to Mizzou next week and Oklahoma State in 2 weeks. Then, the Sooners will be right back at the top.

Comments like this crack me up. College football is about RECRUITING. The Sooners can't help it if Bob Stoops is a better recruiter than Mack Brown.

For the record, ESPN.com currently has 30 players listed on the Sooners roster that are actually from Oklahoma. 41 of the players are from Texas.

Great game regardless of the poor officiating. OU's first touchdown was not over the line and should have been 4th and 1. Two bad roughing the passer calls against OU and a bad running into the kicker against the horns that led to 7 points for OU (To the punters defense he didn't take a dive. He had pulled up lame after to the fake punt attempt and looked to have a pulled hammie). The call on the interception looked bad as well and led to 3 points for UT. The officiating was bad but it was bad both ways. Ultimately, UT outplayed OU in the second half and that's why they won. HOOK'EM

Do you really believe that Stoops is a better recruiter??? I admit he is great but that makes me laugh.

Guess they're going PC too.

More numbers:

30 - number of yards on two of the worst and most costly personal foul calls against OU. Both times McCoy slipped and fell going out of bounds and both times the OU player was trying to keep him from falling.

0 - number of yards Texas was penalized when Sam Bradford was slammed to the turf out of bounds on his on sideline.

3 - number of points awarded to Texas from a field goal that never should have been allowed after what was clearly an interception. Talk about taking the wind out of your sails.

Not saying OU would have won but, come on, those were so blatantly bad it stunk.

Congratulations Texas on a great win and let's lead the Big 12 back into the championship where it belongs.

It wasn't roughing the kicker, it was running into the kicker. A 5 yard penalty that did give them a first down. It happened earlier in the game too and it didn't result in a first down.

Coaches don't get to ask for reviews in college. However, every close play needs to be reviewed. UT's running TD was reviewed as was OU's first TD, which clearly wasn't a TD.

But, you're right. OU was outplayed. Plain and simple. Congrats UT.

Yeah, Stoops has stolen some Texas High School players before. He's that good. Remember a little ole runner from Palestine, Texas named Adrian Peterson? Mack Brown really wanted him.

For the same reason we have the Washington Wizards instead of Bullets. Yes.
