Hey dummies ( a few here) if the PAT is blocked there is no chance for the defense to run it back for a touchdown...sorry, but do you actually watch the games ?
college allows for a runback ( 2 pts if you score) anfd of course in the NFL of course you can return a field goal fro a touchdown

I was watching the game and thought it a bit risky (albeit maybe a 3% risk at best) for Pittsburgh to be lobbying for the game-ending TD-- and silly that the Chargers were trying to just get off the field-- because a game-ending TD would also mean a TD-following PAT, which could always be blocked, run back, and used to tie the game at 17-17 with no time remaining. Thought it was weird that neither of the commentators mentioned this as the credits rolled and confusion reigned on the sidelines.

Actually, the commentators did mention whether or not it was smart for the steelers to just go ahead for the field goal on 3rd down b/c it was risky to go one more down which could result in a pick or fumble.

If you remember the Steelers v. Jags game last season...they lost with 45 seconds left on the clock. They ran one more play yesterday to run the clock down!

What the articles fails to mention is that after the game was over, referree Scott Green announced that the play was in fact a TD at the end of the game!! The whole entire game was piss poor officiating, starting at the beginning of the game when pass interefence was called on Pittsurugh in the end zone..all the way to Troy's TD not counting. There were 14 penalties against the Steelers and 1..yes i repeat 1 penatly against the Chargers! Hmmm...did ya bet the game yourself ref?

If the NFL (No Fun League) can fine players after a game is over for plays they weren't penalized for during the game...why not start fining the refs!! I'm suprised the money hungry NFL hasn't thought of this themselves! If players are being held accountable, then the refs should be as well!

Gambling will always be involved in sports..but come on refs..don't try and make it so transparent!!

The Steelers had two touchdowns negated in the closing seconds and still won a nail-biter. But anyone who took Pittsburgh and gave the points lost a heartbreaker.

Trailing 10-8 with 21 seconds remaining, the Steelers appeared to take the lead on a 5-yard touchdown run by Willie Parker. But the score was nullified by a holding penalty and Pittsburgh settled for a field goal by Jeff Reed that gave the Steelers an 11-10 lead with 11 seconds to play.

After the ensuing kickoff, it appeared the Steelers would cover the five-point spread when Troy Polamalu scooped up a fumble and returned it 12 yards for an apparent touchdown on the last play of the game.

This is when things got confusing. After the play was reviewed, the referee announced the Chargers made an illegal forward pass and proceeded to signal a touchdown. The score, 17-10, was put on the TV screen, which meant the Steelers covered the spread.

However, the ref made a mistake. Because it was a forward lateral, the play was ruled dead and Polamalu's touchdown was wiped out. The final score was actually 11-10, so the Steelers did not cover the spread after all. Oops.

This reminded me of the 2004 NCAA Final Four. UConn was leading 79-75 in the closing seconds when Duke's Chris Duhon banked in a 38-foot shot at the buzzer for a three-point.

"Basket counts, it doesn't matter," announcer Jim Nantz said.

Oh, but it did to some because UConn was a 2 ½-point favorite. Coincidentally, Nantz was in the broadcast booth Sunday for the Steelers-Chargers game.
