Lucky to win this game? Where you watching the same game I was? If not for a 14 second brain fart in the second quarter which included a questionable pass interference call, the Eagles would not have been as close as they were. As far as heart, that a very broad comment, he wasn't the one who chocked and fumbled the ball at the end of the game when it counted. Get off your high horse and give credit where it is due.

I'm surprised at the number of people who jump to say Kornheiser's comment wasn't offensive. First off, whether a comment is offensive or not isn't based on whether we percieve Kornheiser himself as a 'racist'. The question is whether the comment makes implications which have offensive implications to the racial/cultural group which the comment targets.

In this case, its clear (at least to me) that the implication of the joke is that Spanish is the language of 'persons who pick up my dry cleaning'--or to spell it out that spanish is the language of uneducated manual-laborers. How that comment ISNT offensive is beyond me. And I say this as a fan of TK, and fully believing him not to be racist, but that doesn't make the comment any less insensitive.

Cowboystar,

Your correct I did not like Deion or Irvin either. Like I said I have no use for the showboat jive crap from todays players.

ooh please spare me from your wrath.

Funny you think the game has changed. the field is still 100 yards, their are still 11 people on each side, they still throw passes and run up the middle. What has changed is the jive crap and all of the classless people that see a need to perform it.

Great dig on Lance Alworth, first AFL player to enter the HoF and twice the player and person that TO or Irvin will ever be.

enfueg013 I will agree that the match up between the Giants and Cowboys will be interesting to say the least as it stands right now. There is a lot of football to be played between now and our November meeting that will perhaps answer questions regarding both teams and what that game will mean. The NFC East is without a doubt the beast of the NFL this year. Last years Giant SB win and the balance of power in our Division most likely signals the end of the AFC domination for a while. The mediocre parity displayed so far in the AFC's young season is indication of just that. Not sure how all of this will shake out, but I'm enjoying the ride so far!

HoofHearted, I am not an arrogant Cowboy fan as you suggest. In fact I've been a fan since 1969 and the "name-dropping" you did of the old school players (including Lance Alworth who was traded to The Cowboys in 1971 and played two seasons with two memorable catches) gave pause for a yawn! No none of the players you named were "showboaters", but did you dislike Deion Sanders or Michael Irvin as well, or is this simply a TO-hate fest! The game has changed considerably as well as the average fan. Normally I would have a field day with someone like you given the nature of our exchange, but you caught me on a good day so consider your spared and this nowhere conversation between us over!

Could DeSean Jackson afford to take a lesson from Terrell Owens?

Tim Sharp/AP

Congratulations, DeSean Jackson. America has finally found someone more deplorable than Terrell Owens. In one of the oddest and dumbest plays you’ll ever see in the NFL, Jackson caught what seemed to be a 61-yard touchdown pass from Donovan McNabb in the second quarter of the Cowboys’ 41-37 win over the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Jackson, however, felt the need to celebrate, the need to gloat, the need to show that he was the man.

That’s fine. I understand that in today’s NFL it’s not just enough to do your job well; you have to rub it in everyone’s face that you actually deserve to cash in your paycheck that week. The problem was Jackson celebrated by flipping the ball behind him, not in the end zone, not out of the end zone, but just before reaching the end zone. While the play was actually called a touchdown, it was later ruled that Jackson tossed the ball behind him before crossing the goal line. And, since no Cowboy defender recovered it and the play was ruled dead after the touchdown, the Eagles were given the ball at the Dallas 1. Some would say Jackson was vindicated one play later when Brian Westbrook punched it in from one yard out -- but not in my book.

Despite becoming only the second rookie ever -- and first since Don Looney in 1940 -- to begin his career with back-to-back 100-yard games, Jackson still has a lot to learn. Remember: This is the same player who, as a high school senior playing in the 2005 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, caught what appeared to be a wide-open touchdown pass and felt the need to somersault into end zone but fell a yard short and fumbled the ball at the one-yard line. Much like he was on Monday, Jackson was vindicated that night, being named the game’s MVP despite the highlight-reel gaffe.

The play might be nothing more than a side note to a classic Monday Night Football game, but I think it says a lot about the mindset of today’s player, where the need to celebrate is almost as great as the need to succeed. In fact, in Jackson’s case, sometimes the celebration comes before the touchdown. Say what you want about Owens, but at least his celebration -- stretching his body over the goal line after his 72-yard touchdown catch as if he was a sprinter edging Usain Bolt -- came after he scored. Maybe Jackson should take a page from T.O.'s celebration book, imagine the goal line as a finish line and cross it before he celebrates next time.

Kornheiser apologizes

Towards the end of the Cowboys-Eagles game, as ESPN's Mike Tirico was referencing Hispanic Heritage Month, Tony Kornhesier apologized for comments he had made earlier in the game, saying, “On that subject, I said something before I shouldn’t have said, I apologize for it. Not my first mistake, undoubtedly won’t be my last, but a 100 percent apology.”

While Kornheiser never referenced what he said, the comment that stuck out to me as being most offensive came after Felix Jones scored on a 98-yard kickoff return and ESPN replayed the play again with the Spanish play-by-play call. After the play, Kornheiser said, “I took high-school Spanish and that either means nobody is going to touch him or could you pick up my dry cleaning in the morning.”

Here's a clip of Kornheiser's faux pas:

What did you think of his comments and apology? Should he be disciplined any further?
