With all this talk about Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson possibly tying the knot after comments made by a couple of friends and exes, I thought it would be nice to check in with someone a little closer to the situation.

"Tony and Jessica have something really special," said Jessica's dad, Joe Simpson. "I mean its one of those relationships where I wouldn't be surprised if they got married tomorrow. He's a real stand up guy and she loves him."

I spoke to Joe about Tony and Jessica before the Super Bowl this month in a short piece that was in SI, and he was especially candid about his desire to have Tony be his future son-in-law. "I knew him before Jessica," he said. "He's just the most genuine, down-to-Earth guy you'd ever want to meet. He's the best."

While Tony would get Joe tickets to Cowboys games before he dated Jessica, the Simpsons now have to think twice about attending football games. Jessica, wearing a pink Romo jersey, was shown several times cheering on her boyfriend and the 12-1 Cowboys during a December home loss to the Eagles, leading to "Jessica Jinx" theories that only worsened after the Cowboys went 1-3 to finish out the season.

"The worst part is we can't even go to the games anymore because of the scrutiny," said Joe. "The funny thing about the jersey is that Jess got that from Tony's mom who was sitting in a suite above us. She put it on after she got it and it gets blown out and shown everywhere."

The most infamous moment of the couple's relationship, however, occurred when Romo and Simpson were photographed vacationing in Cabo San Lucas prior to the Cowboys' playoff game against the Giants, which they lost after defeating New York twice during the regular season.

"The craziest thing about that Cabo trip was that my wife and I were there for a week on vacation and Jessica called and said Tony wanted to come down for a vacation," said Joe. "We were about ready to leave and they called and said they wanted to come down and see us and I get labeled as overbearing or selling out my daughter to the paparazzi by telling them where they were. Why would I do that? It's ridiculous. Tony's not used to all this attention. It's all new for him so when he put the plane in his name that was leaving Dallas and going to Cabo, I mean that's a touchdown for the paparazzi."
