In tonight's NBC interview with Bob Costas, Michael Phelps was talking about being picked on and knowing who his true friends are. Suddenly, he revealed that he has a Facebook account and that "this week"--i.e while in Beijing, when he was out winning, uh, eight gold medals and all--he was checking his account and seeing old high-school friends who picked on him and, essentially, rejecting their friend requests. This may sound stupid given the mundanity of the statement, but I would argue that such a detail actually humanized him more than anything else I???ve heard this week. (He really is like the rest of us kids!)
