Every June, as the NBA draft draws near, the mock draft backlash starts.
"I think mock drafts are a complete joke," said Joakim Noah to the Charlotte Observer this time last year. "I heard a couple of guys who make the mock drafts are kids in basements. You read what these guys say and they have no idea what they're talking about."
Fans have a love-hate relationship with mock drafts. They're a convenient vehicle for discussing a prospect's pros and cons, but they're an inexact science at best. One or two unexpected picks early can spiral an entire set of predictions into turmoil. And with every last hoop scribe and blogger throwing their hat into the ring, mock drafts become an exhausted practice. By the week of the actual draft, we're tired of the mockery: We want the real thing.
So to break up the monotony, SI.com's Chris Mannix put together a mock draft with a twist: What if every player in the NBA were available and each team had a crack at drafting one, at his current age, in the order of this year's draft? His results may surprise you.
Agree? Disagree? Chris Paul at 23 over Yao Ming at 27? Steve Nash at 34 over Kevin Durant at 19? No Al Jefferson? Chime in with your thoughts in the comments.
