jeter is in the top 5. yes mo rivera has meant more to the team. but jeter has meant more outside of baseball. just like ruth, gherig, dimaggio, and mantle. jeter has become an epic figure beyond the diamond.

Did Costas ever play baseball? Ruth, Dimaggio, Maris or whoever, could not catch up with a modern fastball. Black and Spanish players were not allowed(the steroid/segregated era of early baseball) and these guys that played in the 20's, 30's and 40's were not even in the shape Costas is in. Much less Jeter who can definately play in the modern era. Ruth couldn't play today and he was a drunk racist. Again Jeter can. People have to hold on to some ancient past like its their grandchildren or religion. Don't get caught thinking for yourselves. If Pete Rose and Roger Clemens are bad for baseball. The legend of Ruth is bad for America. Unless your an old white man that can't play any sport and can't find a date.

Hey, nitwit! Your Spanish and black players didn't have to hit a dead baseball in an era where the fences like the Polo Grounds were 600 feet in centerfield or Yankee Stadium which was 467 in the alley. They also now hit against a watered-down product with guys pitching in the majors right now who couldn't even play Double-A in the old days. Ruth would have hit 1,200 homers nowadays with these bandbox stadiums, you moron. That "old white man" was the greatest baseball player EVER and no bloated-head juicer or any of his body-armor-wearing ilk will ever match Ruth's legend. So you can take your anti-white venom and stick it right up your ****! It know it sticks hard in your craw but Ruth -- A WHITE MAN -- will always be THE NUMBER ONE LEGEND in the history of baseball. It's going to be that way until you go to your miserable grave and there's not a f#%*ing thing so can do about it!!

If you don't agree with Costas' list, that your privilege. But don't kid yourself that you somehow know more than 99% of the sporting world.

NBC and MLB Network analyst Bob Costas joined the show to discuss the World Series. Here are some of Costas' takes ...

-- Dan asked Costas who the Phillies should turn to in Game 7 if the series goes that far. "You have to use Cliff Lee in a Game 7 at some point," Costas said. Costas thinks they should turn to Lee for at least three innings to start. Then you go to the bullpen," Costas said.

-- Costas said Mark Teixeira hasn't hit well, but he's not nearly as bad as Ryan Howard. "It's nothing like how futile Ryan has been," Costas said. "Man, he looks clueless up there." Costas says Howard is a great guy, so the media has been slow to jump on him for a classic choke job.

-- Costas said you can definitely give the MVP to a player who isn't on the winning team. But he's not sure that Utley deserves it if the Phils don't win.

-- Dan asked Bob Costas about Ozzie Guillen's pregame comments on FOX that Derek Jeter is the greatest Yankee of all time. Here's how Costas ranked the all-time Yankees.

1. Babe Ruth
2. Lou Gehrig
3. Joe DiMaggio
4. Mickey Mantle
5. Mariano Rivera
6. Jeter or Yogi Berra

-- Costas pointed out to Dan that Ludacris name-checked him in a song. Something about rolling torpedoes, hanging w/ Rostas, and getting paid like Bob Costas.
