Mike Schmidt deserves a Managerial job in the big leagues. Schmidt knows the game and would simply be frustrated and less effective at the the lower levels of baseball. You don;t need to be a great communicator to manage in the big leagues. You need to understand personalities and situations. he has a keen sense of both and recognizes when someone is soft or simply off there game. Big league players win ball games, not mangers. Greeat managers put those players in the best position to win those games. Schmidt has the type of smarts, drive and experience to be effective at the major league level. It has been said that legends can;t manage. I believe Mike Schmidt is the exception to this rule and he would get THE MOST out of a team of major leaguers. This being said, no one could turn the Pirates, Royals or Padres into competitive teams. There is simply not enough talent to harvest a winning team on those squads.

Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt joined the show to discuss the World Series and the Phillies' chances in Game 6 and possibly Game 7.

Schmidt said as he understands it, the Cole Hamels story has been misconstrued by the media. Schmidt pointed out that Hamels said that he definitely wanted the ball in Game 7.

Schmidt said he would start Hamels if there was a Game 7. He'd just have a talk with him before he takes the mound.

However, Schmidt isn't sure that the Phillies will use Brad Lidge, even in a normal save situation.

Schmidt said that Philly fans are more confident in this team than they have been in any other Phillies team. They love this team and really think they're going to win.

Schmidt said that guys in the 3-4-5 spot, like Ryan Howard and A-Rod, can kill a rally in a second. Schmidt said that at least Howard got a few walks in Game 5. Schmidt said Howard is still a threat. "No one's more dangerous. Let him hit a little flair to left field early, then watch out," Schmidt said.

Schmidt said it's hard to pitch around Chase Utley or to threaten him inside. Schmidt said Utley won't give an inch. He led the league in getting hit by pitches last season.

Schmidt said that Andy Pettitte can be tough for the Phillies. "He kind of lulls you to sleep. Long games. Lot of throws to first. A little tougher to figure out," Schmidt said.
