While what Blount did was far beyond the pale and was heavily penalized. If indeed there is suppossed to be some self policing, why have we not heard what the Boise player actually said in his taunt. Was there any discipline of that player. At least with all of the talk and critique of Blount we should at least know what the provocation to strike the Boise player was. Sports writers talk about every facet of this issue except what was said. It is known but not printed. Why?

Playing GOOD at the end of a season does not necessarily mean perfection. It can also mean that a team is hot, or that its opponents have the accumualted wear and tear fo a season, and do not have the bench to make up for it. It is impossible to eliminate a Week 1 matchup. Do I think Oregon is better than Boise State right now? Yes. Can I prove it? No. The only empiracle proof is that Boise St won back at the beginning of the season. The only way you stop the arguement is with a playoff. Then all teams know that each game is won or leave. Each team plays their best possible games. Each team makes sure they have the guns to make it go. ( And I bet if there was a playoff and not that much Strength of Schedule argument, you would see each and every team pop a couple of cupcakes on their schedule each year, just to keep the troops rested, and get the second string some reps.) But now you have to look at the entire schedule. Notre Dame is 2 plays from being 8 - 0. Then again, Notre Dame is about 8 plays from being 2 - 6. At the end of the year, each game has to be counted as what it is - a win. If Michigan and ND have identical records at the end of the year, then Michigan should be ranked higher - even if it was by a single play with 9 seconds left, in the first game of the season.

I can't help but laugh... I've watched both Florida and Texas continue to improve week-to week throughout the season, neither with a loss. Wait a few weeks and lets see what you say, people were saying that Oklahoma State was one of the best teams at week two because they spanked an overrated Georgia team.

Kelly made it clear this isn't about winning. "It's not a football decision," Kelly said.

Kelly said he has seen Blount's behavior improve, but the process is still going on.

Kelly did say Tony Dungy has been a great help and was very generous with his time. Kelly said he didn't know Dungy before this incident, and that speaks to Dungy's kindness.

-- Dan asked Kelly if he could have really run up the score against USC. Kelly said they didn't call the dogs off, they were just managing the game.

"I told our team when we lost to Boise State, one game will not define us. ... The Boise State game will not define us, and the USC game will not define us," Kelly said.
