I was a statistician for the Heat during the 1st 2 seasons. Each night I confirmed with both coaches their starters for the broadcasters and... that we had the officiating crew right for the box. Who covers what game is unknown by anyone until they arrive in the building. (This was so long ago, Andy Elisburg was an intern but most of the officials Donaghy blows the whistle on were there.) In that role you get to know some of these guys and... you hear things.

Donaghy is on point.

Just ask Mark Cuban what he thinks about this (if he'll comment). This, more than anything, is what got him in trouble with the Commish and why he resorted to his referee rating system... to try and expose it. Once an official gets to that level, it is royalty. I ref here in the UK and wish folks had half the authority, respect and back-up of these guys. The intimidation factor is such that no one can ever say anything. Cuban often came right up to the line and backed away out of fear.

Was Donaghy trying to sell books? Absolutely.
Could some items have been exaggerated? Probably.
Was he wrong to bring them to light now? Maybe.
Was he 100% factually untrue in all of that detail? Not a chance.

And that is what scares the Commish who for 20-years has had an very cushy and extraordinarily high paid job (he signed a 10-year deal worth the same money as then Heat star Seikaly and I am sure has been re-signed for even more).

No way Donaghy is lying. I have been knowing and preaching this for 40 years to any one who would listen. And I don`t even have proof. It has just become too obvious this league has been cheeting the public for decades. wake up America!!

Wow, what is all this hate for Stern? I like how these fans of second-class franchises project their frustration onto the Commissioner. These people need to find real teams to root for, then get out of their mother's basements and actually attend a game.......

You should have pushed him on the Sterling settling out of court DP, what would have happened if that was a player. Stern is more concerned with how you dress than if you discriminated against minorities. Out of all the commissioners, I dislike him the most.

Lol, nice conspiracy theory nut jobs starting off the day, grinding their axes. Apparently the A.M. meds haven't kicked in yet. People want the NBA to get all riled up about Donaghy's book, but the truth is I'm sure the vast majority of it is false. It's pretty evident Donaghy is trying to minimize how reprehensible his actions were by making the other refs seem almost as culpable. And of course he got the added bonus of sticking it to the NBA as well.

David Stern and Larry O'Brien; both NBA commissioners and both Democratic Party Lawyers. Look it up! the only time they ever lied is when they moved their lips. If the NBA gets an overseas team, the Spurs will be scheduled to play back to back either before or after the overseas date. Lakers will get a week off to include the overseas date in the middle of two home dates. Stern, what's up with the Lakers home schedule to open the season? Rather than contraction, Stern should consider relegation. That would have cured the Clippers' problem years ago.

NBA commissioner David Stern joined the show to discuss the state of the league. Here are some of the highlights of the interview with the commissioner.

-- Stern said they can't do anything about Tim Donaghy's book. He hasn't read the whole book. "I have read the excerpts that were on Deadspin," Stern said.

Stern said the one thing that he already takes exception to is the idea the league mandated officials alter the outcome of games. Stern said that's just not true.

-- Dan asked Stern if he wants LeBron James to stay in Cleveland or go elsewhere. "I believe as a system, that it should favor the incumbent team in re-signing the player, whoever that player is," Stern said. Stern said because of that, he'd like LeBron to stay in Cleveland, even if that's not necessarily the popular choice.

-- Stern said the NBA has no intention of expanding immediately. He does think that some day they might very well have a team overseas.

Stern said any theory about revenue sharing does include the option of contraction. "But that doesn't seem to be a realistic option," Stern said.
