Ken Shamrock, Darryl Dennis/Icon SMI

Let's just say Oct. 4 did not go as EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw had hoped. In speaking with FiveOuncesOfPain's Sam Caplan, Shaw said he heard of the "issue" with Ken Shamrock about five hours prior to the main event and that he was lucky Seth Petruzelli was willing to step up. But, even to Shaw, the details surrounding Shamrock's elimination are still sketchy.

He definitely didn't make a penny. In fact, if there was any idea if there was any foul play involved, he might have lost money.

But for EliteXC, we'd like to believe in Ken and what happened but it's just very eerie on the day of and again, the cut is real, there's no doubt about it. The laceration was there. But none of us were there so it's tough to say why he was sparring so hard the day of. I asked Tito Ortiz if fighters spar on the day of and he said he goes full that day, which surprised me. So maybe he didn't completely hit his head, or maybe he did? I don't speak to every fighter about their sparring practices the day of (a fight), I just know that boxers don't. It's interesting to me.

Though Kimbo's fight with Petruzelli was over in just 14 seconds, the problems didn't stop for Shaw. Following the knockout, the EliteXC veep had a heated conversation with the head referee, Tony Wragge, about the fight's stoppage.

I wasn't necessarily angry, I just want to have the right decisions at all times. From my vantage point it looked like the second punch was to the back of the head, which is a foul. That could hit a fighter's equilibrium and mess them up. And you turn him over and you punch him a couple of times and the ref stops it because there's no recovery time after that. So I just asked the ref to please look at the video.

I can't file a protest myself but I think his camp will look at it and decide on their own.

Sam Caplan: When you saw the replay on the screen, did you still feel the second punch was a foul?

Jared Shaw: I think Seth Petruzelli definitely had a nice, clean first punch but ... Look, I don't say refs make the wrong calls because the hardest job in the business is that of the referee. He's got to make that stoppage. He's got to decide when to break fighters up. And none of us know because none of are in there - unless some of us have reffed -- but you don't know what you're seeing and how quick you're seeing it. So I never go against a referee's decision but sometimes decisions are rendered and they might not be the correct call. Not that it's going to get overturned but maybe it's more reason to see a rematch. I don't know. I saw something and I pointed it out. I saw it again and I still what I saw is the same thing but it's not up to me.

His golden goose has fallen!

I don't support Kimbo but it was clear as day that the second hit was a single fist hammer on the back of kimbo's head.....

October 6, 2008  02:45 PM ET

also, on YouTube there are videos of Kimbo taking far more than that directly to the chin without even blinking. While I still think Kimbo would have lost, it shouldn't have been stopped so quick especially after an illegal shot to the back of the head.

He was done before that blow landed and it wasnt much of blow anyway

This is quite sad really. Clutching at straws! He lost fair and square. He ran across the cage got popped fell down and got pounded out. The Ref did what he was supposed to do, protect the fighter.

What's a rematch going to prove? If they believed that Kimbo was a world class fighter he would be going in against world class opponents. Andre Arlovski was in the building. Hell if they would have stuck him there with him it wouldn't be as bad for Kimbo. He would have lost sure maybe even knocked out but, He would have lost to a world class fighter.

The Spin would have been fine. Kimbo loses to Ex UFC Champion. Instead Kimbo loses to Ex... TUF Reject.

I don't see Mr. Shaw going to the defence of any other fighter that lost so a referee stopage Sat. night, or on any of his previous cards. He didn't for Kimbo's last opponent even tho he was complaining that the ref stopped it prematurely. It just shows he was never going to let Kimbo fight any "real" fighter any time soon even tho he gets the main event. Because he would lose. All it means is that casual fans see Kimbo for what he is, a "street fighter " not an "MMA fighter".

Any blow to the back of the head has a huge chance to be significant. Trust me. That's why they are ILLEGAL. Not that I care if Kimbo lost or not, but I agree with Loki, they stopped it a little too soon. Kimbo was getting up.

he wasnt getting up, the blow to the back of the head was hardly anything to get all worked up about.heck the punch that dropped him in the first place wasnt even that hard. i mean seriously he got drilled in his own backyard in front of family and friends in 14 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. how can anyone offer any kind of excuse thats legit. he got whacked by a sub level fighter in 14 SECONDS. and to top it off you got the main promoter or VP of the company or whatever he is crabbing and crying because he sat front row and watched his meal ticket get his butt whooped.(somewhere dana white is enjoying himself to no end)this is a badly run company that watched a bomb blow up in its face and the spin doctors are running wild. oh and for everyone saying kimbo shouldnt have taken the fight,BULLCRAP, HE WAS TAKING THIS FIGHT NO MATTER WHO IT WAS.he dont fight he dont get paid.plus he dont fight and elite xc closes shop right in front of a nationally televised audience.like i siad before i think theyre still done anyway but having kimbo not fight would have been suicide. so please stop with the he didnt have to fight stuff, YES HE DID.

So Kimbo made $500K for 14 secs, or $35,714 per second. Who is the fool now?
