The tension between Affliction and Randy Couture took a turn for the worst today.
Ever since Couture decided to return to the UFC, the clothing company-turned-MMA-promotion has not taken it well (recall the Scott Ferrall radio show). Couture still has business relations with Affliction via the Xtreme Couture apparel line, but as "The Natural" splits his time between two rivaling organizations, emotions have flared. And today, they erupted.
MMAPayout.com just learned that Kim Couture, Randy's wife, filed a lawsuit against Affliction owner Todd Beard. The suit alleges that Beard threatened Couture, and she's seeking a restraining order to prevent the Affliction exec from having any contact with Couture, including at this weekend's UFC 91 heavyweight showdown.
Oh, but wait. It gets better:
In support of this request, the complaint includes a summary of a private background check on Beard. The background check allegedly discovered Beard to be a five-time felon with prison and jail time served. Among the offenses Beard allegedly committed are forgery, fraud, domestic abuse, and DUI. The complaint also alleges that Beard appeared in a Los Angeles court room just last week on a charge of threatening another's life.
