In light of umpire Joe West's recent criticisms of the Yankees and Red Sox, a controversy has erupted over the pace of play in baseball. In the offseason, commissioner Bud Selig convened a panel of experts to discuss on-field issues, one of which was pace of play. No new rules have been put in place, but a few measures have since been discussed, from enforcing existing rules to limiting the number of mound visits per inning for both catchers and coaches.
Is pace of game a problem for you? If so, what should be done to improve it? Should there be a limit on mound visits? Should batters be allowed to step out of the box if they didn't swing at a pitch? Should umpires encourage pitchers to throw whether or not the batter is in the box?
