Stephen King
Stephen King read an ironically titled book as the BoSox lost.
James Borchuck/St. Pete Times

The Red Sox (and their fans) | The team's ALCS hole deepened thanks to a 13-4 thumping at the hands of the Rays, who slammed three homers in the first three innings on their way to an emphatic 13-4 victory at Fenway Park. Even more disappointing? The defection of Red Sox Nation toward the exits during the sixth inning, according to the Associated Press, while famous fan Stephen King apathetically read a book in the stands. (Could the irony of the title have possibly been lost on the novelist?)

Evan Longoria | The third baseman slammed his fifth homer of the playoffs off Tim Wakefield, breaking the rookie record set by Miguel Cabrera during Florida's World Series run in 2003. Longo is batting .291 in the ALCS with three homers and six RBI.

The Flyers | Philadelphia lost its third straight game to open the season in agonizing fashion, when Pittsburgh's Pascal Dupuis scored on a slap shot with 10.8 seconds left in overtime. For the Flyers, who already trail the division-leading Rangers by nine points, the gut-wrenching defeat ensured their worst start since the 1995 season.

Larry Johnson, Adam Jones and Sebastian Telfair | It was a busy day at the principal's office at National Football League and National Basketball Association headquarters. Johnson, Jones and Telfair each received suspensions for their respective off-field antics.

Pacman who? I aint even worried about him, we got Roy! ;)

First off...it was a total blowout...and a game that started after 8pm...

Seriously, what do you expect from fans that wont see their bed till the next day? Do you expect them to sit there for 3+ hours while their team is obliterated? That was just a stupid remark by you the author.

Second and finally, the Flyers wont win until they get a hockey god to drop the puck all "ceremonial" like....I vote for Bernie Parent or Dave Schultz...

Sarah Palin dropping the puck in a politically motivated move by Snyder has just created the Palin curse.

I disagree. You don't leave church early and you don't leave a baseball game early. See, there is no time limit in baseball, so anything can happen as long as you have outs left.

October 15, 2008  11:31 AM ET

gotta love when the Red Sox Nation starts to jump off the bandwagon

October 15, 2008  12:23 PM ET

It's not the first time Stephen King's been spotted reading a book at a Sox game, how someone could even concentrate on a novel in the middle of thousands of cheering and in this case, booing fans is beyond me.

October 15, 2008  12:41 PM ET

I would love to see him take a line drive to the head! How perfect would that be? What a typical Chow. Amazing.

October 15, 2008  12:47 PM ET

Maybe he can use that scary beat down the Rays put on the BoSox as material for his next book.

To suck it up or stop calling themselves fans when they're really just casual observers.

You stay till the end of the game or you aren't a fan because being a fan means backing your team by being a supportive (or disruptive) force. You can't do that from the parking lot. I know there are casual fans who would rather "beat the traffic", but some people come to watch their team play and do their best to give them a real home field advantage.

Hey Red Sox Nation where are you all now? You are the most obnoxious, disgusting, loud mouthed, foul mouthed boors of any sports fans in the nation! Where is all the chatter now? I seem to recall a loud mouthed red sox nation member telling Angels fans we don't go home til the game is over in Fenway. Obviously you all are getting your payback! I want to know where have you all gone now? Sit down, shut up and watch your team get what is coming to it! You NEVER EVER deserve to win championships!

October 15, 2008  01:54 PM ET

Boston is done. Let their fans go home and complain. I've lived in the Boston area and their fans are some of the most obnoxious sports fan Ive ever met. I'll root for anyone thats playing Boston, soley due to their loud mouth, over zealous "fans". I hope Tampa creams em in game 5

Oh and I'm certainly glad that the terrible, terrible Manny is gone. Obviously Epstein was right. Who needs Manny and his bat in the post season. lolol

October 15, 2008  02:10 PM ET

I am die hard fan and have, when the opportunity arrived, stayed at Fenway until after 1AM (for those that don't know - public trans.stops at midnight, and anyone with connections must leave to give themselves time to get home). That said, for all you losers that HAVE to bash the Nation, let up. We may lose this series, and most of us that are Red Sox fans AND baseball fans, will probably cheer our collective A**** off for the Rays to take it all. They are, for those of us that remember, a lot like our 2004 team, and who doesn't love an underdog beating goliath? GO SOX!

October 15, 2008  02:15 PM ET

boston is dunzo...KANGFIRMED!

Are you kidding me? We never, ever, deserve to win ?!?! Hey crack head, the teams that win, DESERVE to win. That is why they call them GAMES. Some of you people are hysterical!!

Yeah, isn't it just great the way "Big Papi" is taking up the slack for Manny? Jason WHO???

October 15, 2008  02:44 PM ET

You heard me right, the city of Boston and especially Red Sox Nation DO NOT DESERVE ANY CHAMPIONSHIPS! Red Sox fans are the worst in the nation! You all consider yourselves passionate but to the rest of us you all are a bunch of boors! I hope the red sox never make it back again!

The Red Sox fans are the greatest MLB fans and the most die hard fans without question. Stephen King is known for reading books at Red Sox games I've seen him in other pictures, highlights and games reading a book with a hoodie on, paying no attention to the game - Who cares?
