Nineteen NBA players, 17 baseball players, eight NFL players, three NASCAR drivers and three golfers appear on SI.com's 2011 list of the 50 highest-earning American athletes. And while labor strife could put a dent in the future paychecks of the NBA and NFL guys, the top athlete on the list -- Tiger Woods -- has already seen his earnings diminish. By this time next year, in fact, Tiger may have surrendered his eight-year run atop the list.

When I see how many football and basketball players are on the list this year and how many were on last year my support for the owners in these negotiations goes up. Players are greedy ****.

What about Maria Sharapova? She made 24 million from May 10 - May 11, according to Forbes. She should be on the international list no matter how you calculate earnings.

There is no distinction made between gender on the list, at least none that is mentioned. All that is stated is that this list is made up of the top 50 earning "athletes". Sharapova's earnings should make her eligible, at least for the international list.

I don't know anything about other female athletes like... Danica Patrick, but the closest female tennis players besides Sharapova (the Williams sisters) only earned 12 and 13 million each. Maybe they literally just didn't think to check female athletes, since they generally don't make much?
