The truth is the Corgan dislikes Vedder for 1 reason..

Corgan asked PJ to tour with them and Vedder turned down the offer. He added insult to injury when he stated publicly (98 i belive) that PJ was a better band bc there arnt any dictators in the band such as a Billy Corgan. He went on to talk about how Iha's talents are squashed by Corgans need to dominate every facet of the song writing.

Ever since Billy has trashed vedder in every chance hes gotton.

His set lists are full of songs that noone has ever heard...and noone will hear again. If he is going to try and throw stones, he should listen to last 4 CDs (make it 5...include ZWAN) and blame the tall idiotic bald guy that wrote that crap.

This argument has nothing to do with The Pumpkins or Pearl Jam. Vedder is NOT a Chicagoan and therefore should not be writing, co-writing, singing, playing, thinking or dreaming about Cubs songs. I'm sure the Mariners could use his help. We're all tapped out with Cubs songs. All we need is one and we've got it. Of course, if a nice Chicagoan who is a REAL Cubs fan, say named Billy, would like to write a song about the team that resides in the city he LIVES in I think we would be open to that...

However, as much distain as I may have for Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder & the Seattle Mariners - I will admit they had nothing to do with our downfall... Just ask Ron Santo. He'll tell you why we lost.

Pearl Jam is the last of a dying bread. They are the last rock band to be hailed by music gods such as dylan, Springsteen, niel young, and pete towsend. They pull of the near impossible feat of being mainstream while maintaing a cult fallowing. Even the gratefull dead didnt due it to PJ's extent. The music can be hard and beatiful at the same time, either way it is always progressive. Vedder's lyrics are even better. They are Loyal to thier fans, always fighting for a cause, and never selling out. With all the corporate drivin, polished, pop crap out their right now (from timberlake to nickleback), pearl jam's ongoing presensce in the music world is a breath of fresh air.

How about blaming Sweet Lou?
After all it was the last game of the season where the effort wasn't 100%.
The loss to the Brewers set it up where IF the Brewers made the playoffs - rules against division match-ups in the first round would come into play...thus the Cubs playing the Dodgers instead of the Mets. Don't blame some f'ing rocker - blame your manager for tanking it on the final day of the regular season.

Billy Corgan (above) implied Eddie Vedder jinxed the Cubs.

FTR caught the Smashing Pumpkins at Philadelphia's Tower Theater in October 2007. And while it's easy to dismiss the band's reunion as a Billy Corgan vanity project -- especially with D'Arcy and James Iha conspicuously M.I.A. -- it's equally difficult to deny the Pumps their propers. Yes, Corgan's a pretentous wanker but he's also a masterclass performer and expert musician responsible for 98 percent of his band's catalog.

Corgan also happens to be a devout Chicago Cubs fan -- perhaps explaining lyrics like "way down deep beneath my heart / lies a soul that's torn apart" -- and often opens up about his lifelong passion during shows.

Home Run Derby reports from a homecoming concert this week in Chicago, where Corgan spoke between numbers to the crowd about "All the Way," the Cub-themed song Eddie Vedder recorded earlier this season. Corgan seems to believe the Pearl Jam frontman, a former Chicago native, torpedoed the team's chances of ending its century-long title drought by writing the ditty.

If … If … IF … the Cubs did have a chance this last year that just passed … [expletive] Eddie Vedder killed that [expletive] dead. Last I checked Eddie ain’t living here, Okay?

Eddie ain’t living here to write a song about my [expletive] team.

Nothing like a feud between fortysomething alt-rock legends to spice up the Hot Stove League.

What say you, Cubs fans? Did Vedder's song pump you up? Or, like Corgan, did you see the writing on the wall?

Billy Corgan blames Eddie Vedder for the collapse of the 2008 Cubs [Home Run Derby]
