SI.com's Jon Heyman reports the Yankees are preparing to sign Mark Teixeira to an eight-year, $180 million contract from the Yankees with a full no-trade provision.
New York edged the Red Sox, Angels and Nationals in the hunt for the first baseman, who hit .308 with 33 home runs and 121 RBIs in 2008.
The signing ensures the Yankees will open the 2009 season with the four highest-paid players in Major League Baseball on their roster, with Teixeira joining Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and CC Sabathia.
