        <body>you have to remeber that many people of the people who are &amp;quot;overreacting&amp;quot; were around when having a black president was just a dream. Obama himself said that this period of their lives shaped them as it would have shaped us if we lived during those times. For this generation race is source of pride and it trickles down to their children as well.Race has been and will continue to be a part of our culture that just how it is. As for clarence thomas, he is not well known because he does not have the charisma of a barack obama. he is also did not unite he himself used the race card during his confirmation hearing. obama is special because he was the first black candidate not to run as a black candidate.</body>

        <body>Mr. Sergeant Chocolate i think you have somewhat of a point. You have to remember though that alot of people were around when the civil rights movement was strong. Obama himself said in his speech that race has been engraved into their being and culture. These same people who you say are overexcited were there when segregation was prevalent. The older generations also shape the younger ones influencing them somewhat. It is an example of how far our country has come from those days. Back then you could not drink from the same water fountain if you were colored but now an african american is the president of everyone. Even if obama fails to succeed as president he will still be a source of black pride thorougout history. Race has always been part of our culture and will continue to be that way. As for clarence thomas, he himself has brought up the issue of race one more than occasion. on his confirmation he brought up the issue of his sexual dealings with a former co worker or employeee as being a lynching. what makes obama special is that he has the charisma to attract hoards of people without bringing up the racial card.</body>

          <body>Call me racist(Which i am not) or whatever floats your boat. But black people need to stop showing over-excitement for obama. Stop being excited for him being a black president. That itself promotes racism because you are bringing race into this topic. Be proud of him for becoming The President, not for being a black president. Now many will say, that i just dont know what it means to have someone from my race become president. But even if the next president was mexican(Which i am) i woudnt be grateful for him being a mexican president, but i would be excited for him to become such an honerable thing as a leader of a nation. Now yes what obama has done is remarkable. I totally love the guy and feel he will do the nation well. But us minorities are taking advantage of this man. So many people in my school and all around are saying ignorant things like &amp;quot; the white man is finally out&amp;quot; and there is just so much other things. If we as a nation wish to get pass our huge racism problem, then lets not put race into everything. You dont have to agree with me, but its the way i feel. And please dont call me racist, i am the exact opposite.</body>

        <body>Simply put, there is no other race in this great land who where slaves, who purposefully hated and systematically destroyed. We (black people) should be and will be jumping for joy all year fro President Obama. Sergent Coco doesn't know anything about the black experience and just because you are a minority doesn't mean you understand. There have been a bunch of Black politicians who ran for this office and didn't get it because of racism, not because they weren't smart enough. We are doctors, lawyers, ceo's, computer techs, you name it we've done it.
This is special because America has a let a Black Family, who just 50 years ago would have been spat on in some parts of the country, represent and lead her. This is special. And like I said you wouldn'y know that unless you understood the Blacm Experience in America. Read a book bone head.</body>

          <body>I will just sat that if you can't understand the excitement of African Americans, then you truely don't understand the struggles. The fact that we weren't the only slaves doesn't negate the pain and suffering our ancestors went through. As a fellow brown skinned man, you too should also be proud and excited about this moment. If and when there ever is a Mexican president, I would hope that your race would also celebrate. I don't see it as racism or a slap in the face to other races. If you are finding it so hard to understand, find a old African American in your neighborhood and talk to them. About how either they or their parents couldn't eat at certain places, drink out of certain water fountains, had to go to segregated schools, ride in the back of the bus, had their mothers and sisters raped, brothers and father beaten. After seeing all of this, then witnessing that same country overcome that and vote a black man to lead them, you'd have to be blind to not see the significance. It is a fact that racism exists, and always will to some extent. But this is what we call breaking the barriers. Just like the first black man to play on any major league team, they opened the door so that others could follow. Like the first black coach to win the Super Bowl...what that does is let the rest of the world know that we are capable of doing certain things. Leading a team, and now a country. When someone does it and succeeds at doing it, it paves the way for others. White America has not had to endure the things we have, which is why Obama is the most celebrated president. Surf the net and read articles from across the globe and you'll find that African Americans aren't the only ones that are excited about this moment. Slavery isn't an excuse, and yes some people do need to get out and do for themselves. The fact that some people are lazy and blame it on others in no way takes away from this historical moment. Whether you want it to be or not, it's a fact that this is our FIRST black president, and that means a lot! If you can't see that, you really need to do your research.</body>

        <body>I agree that racism wont go away. And ive been saying this for a while. But why must one be remembered as a different type of president. And this is happening once you bring in a mans race. Just have him labeled as THE PRESIDENT. Not the 1st BLACK president. This will be my last comment on this blog and i admire what you and other people commenting are saying(those that are not stupid and leaving racial comments) what comes from there mind. But this whole time im was not downing any race and if it seemed like i did i am truthfully sorry. But i was trying to point out that yes we as a nation are trying to get pass segeregation and we have done very good since but why must we bring race into every little thing. In this case a big case. but even this doesnt need any racial involvement. We should not wait for someone of our race to become a monumental figure, so that we can dream of accomplishing monumental dreams. we should have that mentality whether or not someone makes it or not. So to leave on a good not i hope OBAMA does great and i know he will and its been nice to talk to people who actually have some sense about our surroundings.

Peace and Love</body>

          <quoted-text>i understand what you are saying, but i think you are missing the point, see a lot of fredoms that you have a mexican, is because of all the hard work that black people did to fight for equal rights, so today was more of excitment for what america has become, because at one point white men where the only ones that had full rights, so now with obama becoming president it means that we all can stand tall and say that we are americans, and one day we will celebrate our first mexican pesident, our first women president, our first asain president, understand that today means so much more. It mean american is fullfiling its dream One Nation under God, all men and women our Equal,...God bless america</quoted-text>

          <body>You guys are extremely ignorant to think that African Americans are crazy for having excitement for the first African American president. You guys don't understand that less than 100 years ago Blacks and Whites could not even eat in the same room just cause the color of black peoples skin color. My grandparents could go on a road trip and get tired and not be able to go to certain hotels for again the color of their skin. It is a great feeling to be able to tell our children that they can be anything they want to be in life and actually mean it. Before we weren't able to honestly say to are children that &amp;quot;yes you can become president of the United States&amp;quot;. Now I'm happy to say that we can!!! One more quick thing to think about. Do you think Caucasians would have liked Eminem as much if he was black? He is a great rapper!!! Don't get me wrong but, I almost can bet that the fact that he was a great rapper and that he was white helped him gain those white fans what's the different.</body>

You guys don't understand that less than 100 years ago Blacks and Whites could not even eat in the same room just cause the color of black peoples skin. My grandparents could go on a road trip and get tired and not be able to go to certain hotels for again the color of their skin. It is a great feeling to be able to tell our children that they can become anything they want to be in life and actually mean it. Don't get me wrong but, I almost can bet that the fact that he was a great rapper and that he was white helped him gain alot those white fans and if you dispute what I'm saying than what made eminem any different than any other rapper?</body>

          <quoted-text>Call me racist(Which i am not) or whatever floats your boat. So many people in my school and all around are saying ignorant things like &quot; the white man is finally out&quot; and there is just so much other things. If we as a nation wish to get pass our huge racism problem, then lets not put race into everything. You dont have to agree with me, but its the way i feel. And please dont call me racist, i am the exact opposite.</quoted-text>

          <body>i understand what you are saying, but i think you are missing the point, see a lot of fredoms that you have a mexican, is because of all the hard work that black people did to fight for equal rights, so today was more of excitment for what america has become, because at one point white men where the only ones that had full rights, so now with obama becoming president it means that we all can stand tall and say that we are americans, and one day we will celebrate our first mexican pesident, our first women president, our first asain president, understand that today means so much more. It mean american is fullfiling its dream One Nation under God, all men and women our Equal,...God bless america</body>

        <body>I understand were your coming from. I really do. But what im arguing is its sad that we need something like this to make us feel all under god or all americans. I hope that when we as americans get our first mexican president that we hispanics dont look and say &amp;quot;look what we have come through to reach this goal&amp;quot;. I really dont. To me this is an excuse that holds many back. We as americans, hell as human being's need to realize what were capable of and dont wait til one person of your race achieves his/her goal. Go out and get it yourself, no excuses just work your ass off til you cant work anymore.</body>

          <body>Sgt. Chocolate, you don't get the point and you never will because you are a Mexican. Your people sneak into this country everyday looking for a better opportunity. The black man was brought to this country in slavery, not by choice. Therefore black people have much to be proud of because we are THE ONLY people on this earth that have ascended from slavery to become the leader of the free world. And we couldn't careless what you or anybody else thinks or feels, you will not and cannot take this feeling of pride away! You're Mexican, you have a country that you can return to anytime that you want to. So if you don't like what you see, when black people celebrate one of our own over come 400 years of oppression, you have the right to go back to your own country. Because this is only the beginning, we have allot to be proud of and we will continue to express ourselves.</body>

        <body>Ummmm, You obviously didnt read my entire post. So i will say it again for you. I LOVE BARACK OBAMA AND I FEEL HE WILL DO OUR NATION WELL. I am glad that he is our president but dont look at him as a black president, just realize the most important thing which is for some reason being overshadowed because of race, that he has become a president. And this whole thing about me being mexican and that my people just &amp;quot;sneak&amp;quot; over to america just helps it when i say that our nation is still covered by ignorant remarks about race.

And i would like to quote you.
&amp;quot;black people have much to be proud of because we are THE ONLY people on this earth that have ascended from slavery to become the leader of the free world&amp;quot;

Well first this proves my point. Dont make slavery an excuse. This entire earth has seen slavery in every city, country, continent. The blacks were not the only enslaved people in AMERICA!! Before there where black slaves there was european slaves. Basically they were poor people that were sold. Unfortunitly like the african americans. And to answer anyone's question they were not Indentured Servents. Everywhere around the world has had a positive uprising in terms of having a race that was dominated to finally reach the tip of the mountain(Like Obama reached the presidency). Since you mentioned mexicans i follow that path. Central America was once inslaved(Not all of central america) by european country's. For example Spain. Spain was in the process of a holocaust. Yes a holocaust. My ancesters were not just enslaved they were raped, tortured, and killed. And yes this was a problem with the blacks during the time of slavery, but that alone coudnt compare to what happened in central america a 100-200 years before slavery even hit america. And now Mexico has the richest man in the world. A mexican is president after many years of spainard presidents. My family is lucky to be living in a beautiful home and having a hefty amount of food. But i myself never look at what my people has done since the early slavement. So dont make it seem that african americans were the only people to come out of slavery and succeed. There has been so much other cases, but you just need to open your eyes and realize that this problem is everywhere. Dont bring race into a man's lifelong dream.</body>
