The 2008-09 U.S. Basketball Writers Association's All-America Team was released Monday and many college hoops observers have expressed confusion at this year's selections.
Arizona State's James Harden, Davidson's Stephen Curry, Pittsburgh's DeJuan Blair, Oklahoma's Blake Griffin and North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough round out the first team.
For Hansbrough -- the reigning USBWA National Player of the Year -- it's a third straight selection to the first team. The senior from Poplar Bluff, Mo., becomes the first three-time USBWA first-team All-American since Patrick Ewing, Keith Lee and Wayman Tisdale turned the trick from 1983 through 1985.
But The Big Lead accuses the USBWA of playing favorites with this year's choices, taking objection to some of the second-team selections.
No major issues with the first team, except that it has three power forwards. Whatever. The second team? What a joke. Two guys (Harangody and Meeks) who are playing in the NIT on teams that underachieved. Ty Lawson is the POY in the ACC, and nothing. Marcus Thornton of LSU was the POY in the SEC, and zip. No Gerald Henderson. What games are these guys watching?
Here's a look at the complete 2008-09 USBWA All-America team.
