We don't blame you if you missed the news but, after 85 years, Yankee Stadium is now closed for business. While the trend these days is to build old stadiums that look new, there are still a handful of old-school stadiums that are irreplaceable. Here's our top five old-school stadiums or arenas that are still in use ...

1. Fenway Park: The oldest stadium in baseball that's still in use. Even though it seats under 40,000, the Sox would face a deafening outcry should they try to move. Rightly so.

2. Wrigley Field: Since 1914, Wrigley has anchored Chi-town's north side. If they hadn't installed lights, it would be number one on my list.

3. Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum: Opened in 1923, and it's the only stadium in the world to host two different Olympics (1932 and 1984).
</intro>

The Palestra in Philadelphia is the holiest of college basketball's temples. Cameron is great. Built a few years after the Palestra, by the same architect, and designed to mimic what he accomplished in Philly. A copy is never as good as the original.

Imagine this: Duke vs Carolina at Cameron, with tickets split 50/50. That's what we get when St Joe's plays Villanova in the "holy war" at the Palestra.

Nothing against Sanford stadium, but Ohio Stadium, aka the Horseshoe, is an architecturally significant building on the National Register of Historic Places.
Unfortunately the track that Jesse Owens ran on was removed in the last round of renovations that in part raised seating to over 102,000, but the stadium still has ornate details and old time charm that escape nearly any other facility.

And it has heritage, its 4 champions are now the most of any active baseball stadium. Why does a stadium have to be from the 40s to be historic?

Soldier Field (where the Chicago Bears play) could have been considered one of...if not THE BEST..old school stadiums if it were'nt for the fact that they shut it down in 2002, completely gutted it, and made it look like a space ship landed in the middle of it. It has become one of the ugliest looking stadiums from the outside. But it looks amazing on the inside.

and yes...forget about wrigley...it is a dump.

as for lambeau...never been there...so no comment.

5. Sanford Stadium: Opened in 1929, the home of the UGA Dawgs seats over 90,000 and sits right in the middle of campus. At least it gave me a reason to go onto campus from time to time.
