<body>Wow. This list is GREAT. I miss ALL this stuff, especially about Al Davis and College Bowl games on Jan. 1. Back in the 60's my folks were the first ones among friends and family to buy a color tv, and we celebrated by inviting the men folk over to watch football all day on New Year's Day. Women came too, but they mostly stayed out of our uncouth way. We watched tv, ate, talked smack, made side bets, and ate some more. Dad cooked a big main course of meat, but as time went on some guests became famous for the specialties they'd bring along. One year, Mom and Dad said they were tired and didn't send out any invitations. EVERYONE CAME ANYWAY! Those were the days.</body>

<body>I miss the University of Oklahoma's ability not to choke at Bowl games. OU's lustre is faded--no more National Championships, and this from the team that still holds the longest winning streak in college football. I miss Barry Switzer, the Selmon brothers. I know the talent is there, but if the Heisman trophy winner can be beaten by any old school, something's
amiss.</body>

<body>I miss hitting. The current millionaires club known as the nfl doesn't allow any forceful aggression against another millionaire. It's turned into a tea party. I never liked dirty play, but nasty hitting is what makes great plays so exciting---they have escaped from a punished outcome and found success.

I also miss Pat Summerall, Lawrence Taylor, Curt Gowdy (just the sound of his voice made those old oakland, pitt, miami, orange crush denver games so frigging great. Things I don't miss--cosell and musburger (the most contemptuous announcer that has every lived).</body>
