<body>As one sportswriter pointed out last week: Stirrups. Today's players look ridiculous in baseball pants down to the ground.

I also miss team loyalty. I've always been a giants fan and as a kid, the team changed very little from year to year because there was no free agency.</body>

<body>I miss what was called in the 70's and 80's twi night doubleheaders. Somehow playing 2, (and each team seem to have at least a couple of scheduled double headers a year back in the 70's &amp;amp; 80's), just seemed right....plus i remember you got 2 games for the price of 1</body>

<body>I agree that the DH should go. It's an abomination. I miss the days when nine guys had to show they could run, throw, field, and hit. Speaking of things that should go - the home run derby before the All-Star Game. If people want to watch slow-pitch softball they can go to the local park district tournament.</body>

<body>Speaking of hustle..... How about &amp;quot;Charlie Hustle&amp;quot; Pete Rose? I think baseball needs him back. He was the image of ordinary, plain guy next door who you wouldn't think about twice. BUT, come first pitch, he left it all on the field. If Micheal Vick can get a pass from football, why as baseball kept its back turned on Rose? Also, scrap free agency. When I was 10, I could tell you the starting line-ups for the REDS for the last 2 years!!!! Now try and remember the line-ups before and after the All-Star Game. Thank God for the internet!!!!!!!!!!</body>

<body>the person who missed the bullpen vehicles is too young to really miss the relievers jumping over the fence and w a l k i n g ever so slowly, jacket thrown over their pitching arm, to the mound... meeting the batboy around second base to give up his jacket... before proceeding on to the mound to take the ball.

and while were at it, i REALLY miss the batter stepping into the batter's box and STAYING there for the entire at bat! If MLB made all the batters stay in the box for their at bat, we'd be back to games that didn't cross time zones in length! I stopped watching baseball because I look at like four hours of my life I can never get back again! and I grew up LIVING for the sport...

<body>I love to listen to baseball on the radio. So when I heard about XM radio, I was excited. Now after listenening for a few years, what I miss the most about baseball is anouncers that understand that I can't SEE the game. The vast majority of the announcers today are terrible! And considering the fact that being an announcer for a major league baseball team is THE most envious job in the WORLD, it is appalling that they can't find better ones. Ernie! Please come back! we miss you. Some times I scream at the radio. &amp;quot;Tell me what's going on!&amp;quot; &amp;quot; What's the score, studpid?!&amp;quot; &amp;quot;Who's pitching?!&amp;quot; &amp;quot;Who's batting?!&amp;quot; There are a few exceptions. The announcers for Baltimore are my favorites, and I don't even like the orioles, but I will listen to their games because I can see them in my mind. Like when Ernie would tell me that Kirk Gigson was knocking the dirt off his cleats for the third time in that at bat. Or that an outfielder was blowing bubbles with his gum. Or the facial expression on the pitcher. Most of today's announcer talk about stupid stuff not related to the game, or worse yet, long periods of dead air. Come on! Just tell me what your looking at, that's all I want to know. Or worst of all, the thing that really gets my blood boiling, commercials. Not the ones between innings, I'm talking about when between pitches the announcer tell me about how to order season tickets or where to go for a great deal on new tires. The reason that it is so frustrating is because there is so much potential for a great baseball experience in every game. It is an art. It really is, because a good announcer paints a picture with his words.</body>

<body>Loved the mention of Tiger Stadium. Did a ball tour in 87 and saw two games there. Sat in upper deck along third base line and could have spat on the third-base coaches. Second game sitting beside Red Sox bullpen, listening to a rather attractive young lady propositioning Rich Gedman as he played along. Enjoyed Wrigley Field but would choose Tiger Stadium first .</body>

<body>I miss ballplayers that hustle after each foul ball and run out every little dribbler to 2nd base. I miss the day when ballplayers did everything they could to win and weren't worried about endorsement deals or whether or not they are getting every dime they are worth. I miss the times when the baseball player would never say anything critical of the manager because they wouldn't want to risk being out of the lineup. I miss the era when almost any team could have a chance to win and stars stayed with the same team for years. I grew up a Royals fan and have only witnessed the last 24 years of misery. I would have loved to have seen Carlos Beltran, Jermaine Dye, Johnny Damon or any of the other would be Royals stay the length of their career. Maybe then teams like the Royals and Pirates would have a chance.

Speaking of the Pirates, I miss their square hats, the Royals original baby blue uniforms and whatever that disgusting excuse of a uniform was that the Padres wore. I also miss the monuments in the outfield of yankee stadium, they stood out like tombstones. I miss large ball parks, like the Polo Grounds, that forced outfielders to attempt outstanding plays more often. I miss passionate players, like George Brett running from the dugout during the pine-tar incident or the time when Pete Rose was feared and respected. I miss Bo Jackson walking on the wall and throwing out Herold Reynolds at the plate from the wall. I miss hearing Buck O'Neil tell stories of the good ol' days and I miss the Brooklyn Dodgers and tough little guys like Pee Wee Reese.

Finally, I miss and yearn for the day when Bud Selig is no longer Commissioner. I miss the day when no one had ever heard the name Donald Fehr and the Mitchell Report probably had something to do with the defense department or something not involving steroids. Sadly, I can say that this was a great game once. I'm sad to see the time when greed and ego ruined the purity and innocence witnessed in Mickey Mantle's face. I miss when it was a game and hate that it ever became about &amp;quot;business&amp;quot;.</body>
