Diana Taurasi absolutely. The women's game gets ignored, but if you look at what she has accomplished, I think SI should step forward and recognize a great athlete that happens to be a woman.

Diana Taurasi definitely! MVP of the WNBA regular season and finals, Euroleague regular season and finals, leading scorer in both leagues, WNBA champion and Euroleague champion. Total domination.

Diana Taurasi. She was league MVP and won her second WNBA championship in three years. She is certainly the best women's basketball player in the world today, and maybe ever. She is a class act and deserves this award. Taurasi is the only women's basketball player I can tell my male peers to watch and guarantee that they will be absolutely amazed.

Tony Dungy may be man of the year, but he's now out of sports. No vote.
Diana Taurasi won in the WNBA. Misty May and Kerri Walsh deserved SOTY in 2007 and didn't get it because they play in a little watched sport. If they didn't get it neither should Taurasi.
MMA and the Spanish athletes, pffft. Get real.
Tom Watson was a sentimental favorite, but he didn't win the Open, so sorry Tom.

As I said before, this is not a good year but if someone has to get it, it should be TEBOW!

If she were a man, she'd be a household name.
She can flat out play. Whatever the game situation needs, she provides.
Need a dagger three to silence a hostile crowd and halt the other team's momentum? DONE.
Need someone to drive the lane, draw contact, and hit the shot for an and-1? Easy.
Need someone to draw double-coverage and dish it out? Any time.
Team is sluggish and needs someone to take control and fire them up? DONE.
Want her to play point? Whatever.
Post-up against the bigs, and be tough enough ? No Problem.
She really can do it all.
Did I mention that she can play?

I say Candace Parker is a legitimate candidate for SI Sportsman of the Year.While her career is still young,I think she has more than proven that she belongs in the same category with Nancy Leiberman,Cheryl Miller,Lisa Leslie,and Sheryl Swoopes.Despite the fact that the Sparks did not win a championship last year,Candace had the most stellar rookie season of any WNBA player ever.She was the 2008 MVP and ROY(no other WNBA player has won both),and won a gold medal with Diana and the rest of Team USA at the Beijing Olympics.She exceeded all the hype surrounding her last year.And then this year she came back form maternity leave faster than anyone thought she would,and led the league in double-doubles and rebounds.She even had some double-doubles in the playoffs.That's a pretty impressive resume for someone who has only been in the league for two years.The only thing still missing is a championship.So I think she has more than earned a nomination.

Peyton Manning. He is having another great season and he has shown sustained excellence over his career.

Let's put off giving Taurasi the award until a year when she doesn't have an "extreme DUI" charge on her record. Until then, the choice should be Usain Bolt, who put track and field in the headlines in a non-Olympic year.

Without a question Diana Turasi is the WOMAN that deserves the award, sure she is not perfect but she did not run away when she made a mistake ( AKA DUI) but faced it and went out and played her heart out. I only have one regret, that I only saw her play in College once and in the Pros once, so far.

She is a perfect person for this award. Best of luck Diana, love to meet you in person some time.

Didn't run away? She had blown a 0.17 and was in handcuffs. I don't think running away was an option.

As his fight with cancer faces the home stretch, he saw the new stadium he fought so hard for open. Yes, Yankee Stadium, not some park named after an amusement park or phone company but a baseball team. Like the old park, he also saw to it a team called home there could start the first season there with the lore we all knew of the old park that "Ruth built".... as World Champions.
