STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson certainly looked fine Saturday evening as he lounged in one of the Barcaloungers that passes for a seat in the Cowboys' team meeting room following the Cowboys' 24-10 win against Georgia.
You'd never have guessed that Wednesday, Robinson was too hurt to play against Georgia - at least according to one bogus Internet report that had people scrambling from Stillwater to Las Vegas to Robinson's hometown of Littleton, Colo. Rotowire.com, a site that covers fantasy sports of every stripe, published a fantasy cooked up by a "source" who claimed Robinson was doubtful for Saturday's matchup with the Bulldogs. The report seemed plausible enough; Robinson had struggled with a hamstring injury early in preseason practice.
It seemed so plausible that Las Vegas casinos briefly took the Oklahoma State-Georgia game off the board. It also caused a minor panic in Robinson's house. "I had my mom trying to call me," Robinson said. "And my dad. I was out at practice. They were all worried. My sister ended up coming out to practice, because she goes here. She texted my dad and said I was fine."
Later, Robinson could laugh at the premature reports of his playing time's demise. "It was a wild day," he said, "but I honestly was fine the whole time."
Still, the entire incident left Robinson astounded at the idea that a change in his status could affect every sports book in Las Vegas.
"I guess it shows how far we've come as a team for that to be such a big deal," he said.
