In an earlier post about the whining coming from South Bend, I told you one of Notre Dame assistant Corwin Brown's complaints was legit. When he said Navy receiver Nick Henderson's below-the-belt hit on Notre Dame's Robert Blanton was malicious, he wasn't kidding. Have a look for yourself.
I know Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has been watching some pretty vicious Pop Warner games, but there's no place in any level of football for that kind of cheap shot. The occasional stray punch in a pile is illegal but expected. Ditto for a good, clean block as the whistle echoes. But you don't go after a guy's eyes, and you don't go after a guy's knees. If Henderson, who was flagged on the play, played in the NFL, he'd be getting crushed by the league office this week.
Since he plays for Navy, Henderson might have to endure something a little more creative. KP duty on sloppy joe night, perhaps?
