To Marsgia,

You are probably a smart person and smart people know that the spelling of the country south of the border is "Mexico" not "Mejico". About the only people I have seen writing the name in such a manner are Spaniards mostly, but you are from Central Americans parents and I would think you should know better. To begin with, you write: This is to every Mexican fan out there (if you notice you use an "x" on Mexican) but then you proceed to write the name of the country as "Mejico". What gives, wouldn't that make us "Mejicans"?

Besides, is not a good thing to "generalize" and call all Mexicans USA haters. I am Mexican but I love the USA, my daughter is a USA citizen (by birth), my grandkids are USA citizens (by birth) my brothers and parents are USA citizens (by citizenship) I myself probably soon will become a USA citizen as well, but I am also a "fan" and when you say "to every Mexican fan out there" and you accuse us all of hating USA, you are showing how smart you are, aren't you?

The way I see it if Landon Donovan suspected he was infected with Swine Flu, he should have not even been around his teammates, and much less the kids that accompany the players into the stadium. The Mexican Federation already announced they won't take any actions against Donovan, but the point is that by his own actions and knowing that he may have been infected, he put at risk his whole team because of the close interaction players have as well as their coaches. I read today that Steve Cherundolo (one of Donovan's teammates) was put in quarantine by the German authorities and won't be able to participate with his team, Hannover 96 in their next game. Many of the USA players play in Europe and if other countries react the same way as the Germans, the actions of one player (Donovan) will severely impact a number of teams because Donovan didn't have the good sense to make what was right and separate from his teammate if he suspected an infection. So whether or not we agree that Donovan was right or wrong for his actions, the point is that his actions have already affected another team (Hannover 96) and may impact others as well. For that alone, shame on you Landon Donovan.

Comment from a Mexican: For Soccerbum (9:36pm). Sounds like you really enjoy conspiracy theories. Donovan stated that had already gotten the virus in the US. Now is no longer a Mexican flu, but a global one. Pretty much like US's financial meltdown, now a global one. Henry Kissinger's quote is very appealing for these type of theories, we might as well link it in some way to Al qaeda!
For Iowan in Deutch (10:04pm). I regret to have to agree with your arguments. By the same token I oppose the stupid celebrations around the Angel de la Independencia monument, where forign turist have been hasseld just b/c look like americans (yes, racism exist also in the underworld). It is shameful, it is stupid, it is wrong. Seem like many Mexicans are so eager of triumph maybe for some sort of self-reasurance that we still "can". I agree fully that someone should punish those stupids by holding the Tri's games behind closed doors. I guess I have to eat my pride and express an apology to those offended. Having said, all this social obeys to a culture nurtured by the hatred caused by a difficult history of colonial slavery, dictatorships, racial oppresion, foreign invasions and a long-lasting authoritarian regime. "This is the country in which we were sent to be born, what can you do", as my fellow elders used to sorrow......
Last but not least, for Donovan, as that Jerry Seinfeld famous chapter:
"get well, get well, we all want you get well..."

To Iowan in Deutschland,
You are absolutely correct in your appreciation and mention of the Fifa Disciplinary code, however during specially heated matches where a lot is at stake, the home crowd unfortunately disregards all limits. I was present at Dortmund in 2006 when the italian team bested the germans during the world cup quarterfinals and the exact thing happened, as soon as the first italian player hit the field to warm up (which by the way was forty minutes before the game started) every single german soul present started whistling to a ear-busting tone. This continued thru out the italian national anthem and every time the italians touched the ball. I was put off by this but apparently the italians did not flinch to this abuse. This behavior is regrettable in any case but I guess the fans play a big part in the game result, thats why it is called a home advantage, not a home disadvantage.

U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan has tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus, Donovan told SI.com on Thursday night.

"I felt something when I got into Miami on Sunday," Donovan said. "I just felt real bad and finally went to see the doctor. They took a swab from my nose and confirmed it, so that was that."

Donovan learned of the H1N1 diagnosis on Thursday afternoon, the day after he played 90 minutes in the U.S.'s 2-1 World Cup qualifying loss to Mexico in Mexico City. Even though Mexico has been the epicenter of the global H1N1 outbreak, Donovan said that he contracted the virus in the United States.

Donovan assisted on Charlie Davies's ninth-minute goal that gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead, but Donovan had little impact on the game after that. Usually the U.S.'s fittest and fastest player, Donovan appeared tired midway through the first half and trailed behind Mexico's Efraín Juarez on the run that resulted in Mexico's decisive 82nd-minute goal.

"I haven't felt that way in a game in a long time," Donovan said from Los Angeles. "During the game and even after the game I thought maybe it was the altitude, the heat, whatever. But even so I've never felt that bad. The last time I was there [at Estadio Azteca] I didn't feel that bad. I just felt lethargic, slow. I didn't feel normal."

Donovan said he wasn't sure if he would miss the Los Angeles Galaxy's game on Saturday against the Seattle Sounders. "If I feel well there's no reason why I can't play, but we'll just have to see how I feel," he said. "Judging by how I felt during other flus and colds [in the past], this doesn't seem as bad, so maybe I got a mild strain of it. The [doctors] don't know a ton, so I'm just trying to keep myself away from people and just go by how I feel each day."

For the past two months Donovan has been in a torrid run of form. He has scored in his last three MLS league games and was the league's Player of the Month in July.

Grant Wahl's book, The Beckham Experiment, is in bookstores everywhere. You can order it here. You can also find him on Twitter.
