The Padres have publicly suggested they may need to expand their search for a landing spot for star pitcher Jake Peavy beyond the Braves, Cubs and Dodgers after some believed a deal with Atlanta could be within reach, and the Yankees, along with the Angels, are seen as places Peavy might consider approving. Peavy's agent Barry Axelrod said again in an interview with SI.com that Peavy much prefers the National League and suggested they he would require more financial inducements to accept a deal to teams lower on his preferred list, even beyond a full no-trade. (Peavy now has a complete no-trade but only for the next two years.)

Yes I'm a Padres fan and a Yankees hater as many on Fannation know. But still, there is no way Peavy belongs with the Yankees in that media market and imbicile fandom arena. As a Padres fan, I have lifted myself out of denial and now sadly accept now that Peavy will be gone. But there is now way he will be happy in the northeast of this country and with all of the pressure, ignorance, and the Steinbrenners in his face. You have no idea what it's like until you get there. If Randy Johnson isn't a cautionary tale for Peavy, than I do not know what is.

What about Peavy landing in Philadelphia with the World Champs?

November 14, 2008  04:21 PM ET

If the Yankees offer Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, and another prospect... there is no possible way the Paders wont take that offer. C.C., Peavy, Burnett, Joba, Wang... best 1 through 5 ever!

I still think that the Cubs should pursue this to the fullest. Now that Dempster isn't going to sign and they are letting Wood go, the Cubs need him. He is a pitcher that can go deep into a game to give that bullpen a rest and he is a class-act. Cubs should give the Padres Rich Hill, Felix Pie, and a minor league pitcher.

Hey EastCoastkeith,

You continue rooting for your loser Padres. Any player or fan who prefers perennial losing to consistent winning and competing for championships SHOULD be loyal to your Padre's or Royals or Mariners etc.. Meanwhile, Yankee fans will look forward every year to what Cashman and the Steinbrenners will do to bring another championship to the greatest city in the world! Yeah, any player who would rather be a big fish in a small pond should definitely stay in their small-market pond. Give us the players who crave the big stage and who want championships and don't care if a little pressure goes along with it!!

November 14, 2008  05:26 PM ET

Yankee27, stop playing in your fantasy world. I don't think Peavy would be the same pitcher in the AL East as he is in the NL West (who would be?) and Burnett only had a good year because he was in his walk year. Just stick with C.C. , Wang , Moose, Joba , and Hughes and be happy. That's still a solid 1-5.

And Bergenddi / JeterRulzzzz, don't hate on someone for sticking by there team. From the looks of those Rays, ya'll better get comfortable in that number 3 spot!!! how did it feel to be shalacked by a team with ONE FIFTH your payroll. Not really a smack talker- but it felt warrented

November 14, 2008  05:39 PM ET

There is NO way that the Yanks will get C.C., Burnett, and Peavy. I see them getting C.C., but they will not get Burnett or Peavy. Peavy for one, does not want to pitch in the American League....he has stated that. Plus, he would go to the Angels before the Yanks. Still, the best fit for him is the Cubs. In Chi-town he will be treated with the respect by the fans.

He has said the only AL teams he would play for is the Yankees and Angels. Dude wants to get paid... which the Yankees can restructure his contract. Fine, fine, fine, I will stop leaving in my fantasy world. C.C., Peavy, Joba, Wang, Moose... better?

November 14, 2008  06:41 PM ET

You don't think he'd be treated with respect by Yankee fans? If he helps them win a WS, he'd be treated better here than almost anywhere else. Going to the Cubs and losing doesn't do or mean anything. Anyone can go there and lose, everyone who has gone there has lost.

I stick with my teams through think and thin (right now being paper thin) and would never turn my back. The expectations and hysteria too many Yankees fans have is what is wrong about being a loyal sports fan in the first place. There's a difference between a big stage and the absolute idiocy that envelopes a Yankees season (which is why I always credit Jeter for making it look simple, good for him). Just my opinion, and an answer to your question.

Have you ever been to San Diego, watched a Padres game at Petco Park, listened to San Diego Sports Radio? It's Planet Mars compared to the environment of sports fanaticism in the New York City tri-state area. As a Padres fan living in New Jersey, who's been to both Petco as well as Yankee Stadium, there are no similarities what so ever. Why do you think it's going to take a ridiculous amount of money to talk Sabathia out of going where really he wants - back to California?

1998 still hurts doesn't it.

November 15, 2008  02:48 AM ET

I don't really know what the Padres where looking for from the Braves, a whole new team? Every day it seemed that the Padres kept asking for one more person, and then another, and then two more. Plus, they hadn't even talked with Peavy or his agent. I don't know who is running things out there in San Diego, but they are not doing a very good job.

November 15, 2008  05:16 AM ET

I would trade Hughes, Kennedy and Cabrera for Peavy. Then give him the kind of money a pitcher of his stature would command on the free agent market.

except that Hughes and Cabrera suck..LOL delusional Yankee fans

November 15, 2008  01:33 PM ET

I lived in San Diego for years and I must say they have the worst Padres fans ever. NYers stick by their teams forever. You pass it down to your kids. The Padres will always be losers, while the Yanks always are gunning for the top. Just because we have an owner who's willing to shell out more than yours (who owns the Pads anyways....the wife?) doesn't mean he has to be the consistent object of ridicule. I tire of having an all-star at every position because the Yanks need more grinders like Jeet. Tell you what Pads, A-Rod for Peavy straight-up. LOL
