I don't get it? Why would the NY media crush Lowe? He's still a good pitcher, they love getting ex Red Sox players to shove in our face. And...with all the A-Rod drama Lowe's somewhat questionable personal life would probably go unnoticed.

The Yankees need to stop looking at long term deals for guys that will be in the late 30's, early 40's when their contract ends. CC is the only pitcher they need to sign and go after Tex. The rotation would be CC, Wang, Joba, Pettitte & Hughes. To think that all of this could have been avoided with the Johan trade for Hughes & Kennedy last year. The $$$ off this years books would still have enabled them to sign CC as well and still have enough to go after Tex with Mussina, Abreu, Giambi & Pavano off the books. Johan, CC, Wang & Joba....oh what could have been!

Okay Yankee fans, maybe it's time we look at the possible scenario of going into 2009 without any of these pitchers. No Lowe, AJ or Sabathia. So it would be Wang, Chamberlain, Aceves, Pettite, Hughes and Kennedy...maybe not that bad and definitely enough money saved to give Tex what he wants. I think we have to start thinking that this could be our outcome and it's livable.

I wouldn't touch AJ Burnett with a ten foot pole. The Yankees would be making a BIG MISTAKE if they signed him. I see Carl Pavano part two if this deal happens. He will end up being as big a bust (Burnett) as Barry Zito is now with the Giants. Think about it......Pavano won 18 games for the Marlins before he signed that 4 year-$40M contract with the Yankees and was a colossal bust. Pavano got his big payday after having only one good season, which happened to be his walk year. AJ Burnett won a career high 18 games with the Blue Jays (also on his walk year/opt out year) and he is a power pitcher who has great stuff, but has had elbow problems off and on. A power pitcher with a suspect elbow is a bad combination. When Burnett is on his game, he is lights out awesome........but that's never been on a consistant basis. Can he put together a string of 18 plus win seasons on a consistent basis??? I can't see it.

I agree. Burnett just has too many question marks to warrant a 5-6 year deal for the money he is asking for. CC is asking a lot but in his defense he has no injury history and dominated the AL in 2007 and the NL in 2008 proving that he is not just good in his walk year, he is good every year. My only concern with him is his weight. I would love to see him sign with the Yankees but I think his heart is on the west coast and in the NL. He strikes me as the kind of guy who will leave millions on the table to go somewhere he wants to play.

The Yankees intended to make four-year offers on A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe for about $14-15 million annually (in other words, close to $60 million each). However, Burnett's agent, Darek Braunecker, is telling teams he's only considering five-year proposals, and Lowe's agent, Scott Boras, apparently also suggested the Yankees aren't in the ballpark.
