either that or he'll take the highest 4 year offer. Who is going to want a pitcher like burnett around at age 37, unless he pulls a Mike Mussina/Jamie Moyer and reinvent himself

We don't want Burnett back with the Jays unless it's reasonable dollars and a string of option years. Seeing as how he only ends up pitching well when it's a contract year

The Yankees will give him five. Do you think they care if he only gives them three years of service? They have the budget and can afford to take the risk more than most, so why would they not give him five if that's what it takes?

If the Yanks land CC, they won't go five on Burnett. They already are leery of 4. Two words. Carl Pavano.

But I agree on Boras. Ridiculous. GM's should laugh him off and say get real. I wish Yankees did. Now we're stuck with A-Rod and the fate of not winning a WS until at least 2016!!

If the Yanks get CC, Burnett, and Lowe it reminds me of the Fantastic Four the Yanks got a few years back in: Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano, Javier Vasquez, & Jarret Wright. Pavano comes off a 20 game win season and does nothing for 5 years the same amount of years Burnett and Lowe want. The Yanks have to be careful not to repeat this becausewe have not recovered since.

Pavano has not won 20 games in any year. He won 18 in his contract year for Florida.

I think if the Yanks get CC they wont feel the need to go 5 for Burnett. Lowe; i'd give 4 years to if i had to. What i worry about is if the yanks get spurned by CC and they, in panic mode, give Burnett huge mistake money to compensate.

ok..since when were they called fantastic 4? pavano won 18 btw n that was prolly his only 13+ win season. vazquez has the stuff 2 b good but was never a big-game player like lowe is. brown was good-grt but was past his prime when the yanks got him. as 4 jarret wright...does he still even pitch?

as 4 burnett, HES BEEN IN THE AL EAST N HAS BEEN DOING WELL IN IT. when we talked about johnson joining the yanks (whos another example about signing past their prime), everyone was saying hed win 25 games w/the way he pitched. he pitched in the nl 4 most of his career (which is another reason y moose is a hall of famer), unlike burneet whos been on the blue jays. will he win another 19 games, idk 4 sure, but i do know hes worth the shot. if we are going 2 offer cc all this $ (who is overrated cuz he sux in the playoffs), then wat the hell n give burnett wat he wants (cuz joba belongs in the bullpen 4 several reasons)
as 4 lowe, now there is some concern there considering his age. he has still pitched well, but that has been w/the dodgers. if they r going 2 sign him, it better not b 4 more than a 3yr 15 a yr deal.

also...how come they have not considered going after tim linecum or nate mclouth? both the giants n the pirates need 2 re-build (the pirates already got rid of bay n nady). even though both r still cheap, it makes it even more worth it in order 2 acquire them. if the yanks were thinking about pursuing peavy, they might as well try n pry linecum from the giants. if it takes getting rid of cano in order 2 acquire 1 of them, then i would do it cuz hudson is available. 2 b honest, i say bring abreu back, use matsui as the centerpiece in 1 of those deals, move swisher 2 dh, abreu rf, nady 1b, n mclouth in cf. as much as i respect matsui n the potential ther is in cano, we need a cf n pitching n linecum n mclouth will fill those holes very nicely
or, we sign texeira, put swisher as dh (trade matsui), nady in rf, have gardner n cabrera platton in cf (since both have potential). either way, there is a possibility we can win a world series w/a payroll under $200 mill cuz 2 b honest, i am pissed off hearing bout the payroll

as much as i hate pavano 4 his injuries, a 4yr $10 mill a yr deal is nothing these days so the risky deal isnt important. any1 would go after a player who won 18 games n won a world series at a young age.

as much as i hate cashman, he is doing his job even though he has made pathetic moves here n there (contreras 4 loaiza, signing jarret wright n brown, proctor 4 betemit, signing igawa, trading farnsworth 4 pudge, n so on).

Burnett? 2 years max, perhaps an option for a 3rd. Ditto for Lowe. I'd like to see them offer Kennedy, Melky, two prospects, and cash to San Diego for Peavy.

hey im an yankee fan & i say they need help on pitching and some on hitting when they get men on base..tell u one thing brain cashman is going to lose out on all free agents.

hey yankfan34...you should be the yanks gm if you can get lincecum for cheap. yes, he does not make much money but to get a player at his age who just won the cy young would take a hell of a lot more than cano to get him. dont you think that if cashman could get lincecum for cano he would do it?

sign Manny, Tex and trade for Cameron. C.C. and Perez. and get ready for the world series.
