MEts should get someone like Lowe, keep Maine and Pelfrey as their 3 and 4 starters and search for a around 30 y/o proven pitcher like Javier Vazquez or someone similar that will get you the innings and will not bankrupt you. Also, they should be thinking about those prospects. In Tampa Bay they deliver quickly. As Reyes and Wright did, they should be bring to the stage and test them. They may be the solution of all their problems but need that push...

Unlike the Rays, the Mets did not have the ability to pick in the top 5 of the draft for 6 or 7 succesive years. So the caliber of prospect is or may not be the same. Simply drawing the analogy between the two can't be done. Because it worked for the Rays in no way ensures it works for the MEts. In addition, if the Mets' prospects were so renowned or ready, Manaya likely would consider them for primetime roles? Throwing young lambs to the wolves may not be the added push they need, but a foolhearty way to torpedo the season from the start.

here we go again. mets go after a washed up 36 year old. Way to go METS. This team will never get to or win world series.Without getting a Second Quality Starting pitcher and a Strong closer. But what the heck!!!!The fans will continue to fork over big bucks for a washed up team.

Raul Ibanez appears to be a popular player this free-agent season. While the Mets prefer to find a righthanded bat, they love Ibanez. The Cubs also are interested, and Ken Davidoff of Newsday added the Dodgers and Phillies as two more potential big-market suitors.

Ibanez hit .293 with 23 home runs and 110 RBIs for the Mariners in 2008, and one executive with an interested team said, admiringly, "He's a late bloomer.'' At 36, he may have his biggest payday yet.
