Cubs manager Lou Piniella said his team is out of the Jake Peavy sweepstakes, but that may not be the case after all. San Diego Padres GM Kevin Towers told Hall of Fame baseball writer Murray Chass that Jim Hendry, his Cubs counterpart, considers the Cubs still in the running to trade for the Cy Young-winning righty.
"I would say the Cubs are still in it. Lou Piniella said they're not in it, but their general manager says they're in it."
Towers added that the Padres "primary goal is to trade Peavy" as they look to shed payroll.

How about this scenario:
Theriot, Marquis and Pie from Chicago to Baltimore
Cubs cut salary (Marquis)
Orioles get 2 young players
Olson and Roberts from Baltimore to San Diego
Orioles continue to get younger
Padres get pitcher they've coveted
Peavy and Venable from San Diego to Chicago
Padres unload Peavy
Cubs get Peavy and young, left hitting center fielder

Roberts makes too much money for the Padres. Otherwise it looks to be a good trade.
