Lets see, the Dodgers are planning on playing youngsters and the two terrible free agency signings that they can't get rid of, the Padres are ridding themselves of and player that make over $1.98, the Rockies seem to be rebuilding, and who knows what the D'backs are doing? That leaves the Giants as the only team that appears to be ready to contend.

They still shouldn't trade Jonathan Sanchez though.

Sabean is a joke, so he will probably make this move. I think if you asked most GM's whom they would like to have & the answer would be Sanchez. Sabean wanted to trade Lincecum for Rios last year until the fan base went nuts.

Having all this good pitching means nothing if you have no offense to score runs. If trading Sanchez means bringing in some offense, so be it. Rather him than Cain or Lincecum. Now whether this Cantu is the offense I'm not sure.

They play in a weak division, So if they can win there division, and go to the playoffs they can do some serious damage because they have such a good and deep pitching staff. Arguably the top 1,2 starters in baseball with Tim Lincecum, and Matt Cain. Also the giants need to win because they are the only privately funded team in baseball, and the investors want a return on their money. They need to put fans in the seats for this reason.

The Giants and Marlins have discussed a trade that would send talented young left-hander Jonathan Sanchez to Florida for hard-hitting infielder Jorge Cantu. The Giants have inquired about some others who could possibly play third base for them, as well, including the Brewers' superb young shortstop J.J. Hardy. However, it appears Milwaukee has little desire to move Hardy, making the Giants look into Cantu, who was an excellent, low-cost pickup by Florida last year. Cantu batted .277 with 29 home runs and 77 RBIs for Florida after being released by the Reds last winter. Sanchez went 9-12 with a 5.01 ERA in 29 starts for San Francisco.

The Giants have been among the more aggressive teams in the offseason, signing free agents Jeremy Affeldt and Bobby Howry and negotiating seriously with free-agent shortstop Edgar Renteria, who is expected to sign with them, as well.
