No one is biting on the bait that K-rod has tossed into the water.

The guy saved 62 games last year (the record), yet everyone recognizes that he played for a good, but scrappy team.

Scrappy teams don't win by many runs and don't lose by many runs, a very good scrappy team makes for alot of save opportunities, hence the 62.

That factor, along with the herky-jerky motion that K-rod uses, makes him not worth a 5 year mega-deal.

JUST WATCH THE DELIVERY

Additionally, there has been a recent movement of interchangability between starters and relievers (ex. Dempster, Looper, Brett Meyers, Smoltz among others) devalues relievers a bit. It is simple supply and demand, there are more options on the market, so less will be paid.

That puts K-rod in Met territory. The Mets did not want to give too many years to a reliever because Wagner has fallen apart a bit and the disaster that was Scott Schoeneweis. The Mets will likely get K-rod as they will be willing to pay more that anyone else is over the short term.

Build It and Who Knows Who Will Come.. Thinking K-Rod is looking at the history with past Mets "star" closers and and he will pass. Mets will probably be better with Fuentes and if that goes south Maine for closer and get pump into the mix for 2 quality starters n Manny/Abreu. I like Abreu for his clubhouse and good work ethic.

Why dont the Mets offer K-Rod and Kerry Wood a contract since it seems that noone else wants to spend any money on a closer this offseason? Beside for closer I think Omar should just sign some lower level relievers like Chad Cordero, Derrick Turnbow, etc. because the bullpen needs a facelift.

LAS VEGAS -- Mets general manager Omar Minaya is meeting with All-Star free-agent closer Francisco Rodriguez, and he is expected to make him an offer.

The exact proposal isn't known, but the Mets have been internally discussing a three-year contract, and might include a fourth-year vesting option.

Minaya said they might meet with several closers at the winter meetings, including Brian Fuentes and maybe Trevor Hoffman. However, as one person familiar with the Mets' thinking said, "If Rodriguez takes the first offer, then that's it, he's the guy.''
