LAS VEGAS -- Pitchers Darren Oliver and David Weathers took themselves off the free-agent market by accepting arbitration offers from their former clubs before Sunday night's deadline.
Twenty-four free agents were offered arbitration by their former teams on Dec. 1, and Oliver (Angels) and Weathers (Reds) were the only two to accept. They are considered signed players and will have their salaries determined by arbitration panels in February unless they reach agreements with their teams before then.

middle relievers,
this is no surprise as middle relief varies every year and in this market, none of them should expect a big multi year deal!

Agreed, the two average middle relievers were probably wise to ensure a contract for next season in this slow moving market. I find it interesting more players (other then the big stars) didn't accept arbitration with the idea of getting a garaunteed contract for 2009 and then reentering free agency after next season when the market has to be more favorable. It will be interesting to see if their agents can get them the longer termed deals I am sure they promised.
Reason in Philly?
