does everyone forget that fuentes lost his job in 2006 when the Rockies went to the World Series. How soon everyone forgets. I would rather take my chances with K-Rod. I would like to still see the Heilman and a player for Street deal go down. So that we would have Street setting up for K-Rod.

Imagine for a moment if we could sign K-Rod to close, then also sign Hoffman who is open to 'anything' to play and also Wood. Then we trade Heilman for Street from the Rockies.. man that would be great. I'd also like to see Punto & Ibanez sign. Then we're good to go, oh yeah, almost forgot we need another starter, don't know but maybe Garland or Wolf would be good options.

On top of that maybe the Mets can sign Manny because he is from NY, lure Babe Ruth back from the dead and see if Sandy Koufax and Tom Seaver want to come out of retirement. It all seems so possible in bizzarro world.

If Wood isn't signed for closer, try to get him to sign for setup job. If Fuentes is signed for closer, use them as left-right tandem, with the other as setup when not closing. If Rodriguez is closer, Wood will still get close opportunities. Plus, we have a safety net in case anyone goes down.

Fuentes is clearly option B, I think he is a possibility (even as the 8th inning guy) but definitely, second fiddle!

LAS VEGAS -- The Mets' continuing tour of closers picks up this afternoon, as GM Omar Minaya will meet with two star free-agent closers, first Brian Fuentes and then Trevor Hoffman, less than 24 hours after Minaya and club owner Jeff Wilpon dined with Francisco Rodriguez.

The Mets made an initial offer, believed to be for three years, to Rodriguez, who is thought to be their first choice. However, Mets people like Fuentes very much as well, and view him as a viable second choice.

Kerry Wood and Trevor Hoffman are also on the Mets' radar, as are a few trade possibilities (Colorado's Huston Street and Seattle's J.J. Putz are among those). Free agency appears to be the most likely route for the Mets, though.

The Indians, Rangers and Cardinals are also looking for a closer here in Vegas.
