LAS VEGAS -- The Mets' continuing tour of closers picks up this afternoon, as GM Omar Minaya will meet with two star free-agent closers, first Brian Fuentes and then Trevor Hoffman, less than 24 hours after Minaya and club owner Jeff Wilpon dined with Francisco Rodriguez.
The Mets made an initial offer, believed to be for three years, to Rodriguez, who is thought to be their first choice. However, Mets people like Fuentes very much as well, and view him as a viable second choice.
Kerry Wood and Trevor Hoffman are also on the Mets' radar, as are a few trade possibilities (Colorado's Huston Street and Seattle's J.J. Putz are among those). Free agency appears to be the most likely route for the Mets, though.
The Indians, Rangers and Cardinals are also looking for a closer here in Vegas.
