LAS VEGAS -- The Cubs have emerged as the only serious player for Padres ace Jake Peavy, who remains very likely to be traded at some point this winter.
The Cubs and Padres have been talking about deals, some of which would necessitate the involvement of a third team. In one potential trade, the Phillies would send young left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ to San Diego, CBSsports.com reported.
It appears that Cubs third base prospect Josh Vitters, the third overall pick in the 2007 amateur draft, is another Padres target.
Provided a trade can be consummated, Peavy is likely to approve a deal to the Cubs, since he wants to stay in the National League and winning is a priority for him.
