LAS VEGAS -- A person familiar with the White Sox's thinking said late Monday night, "The Jermaine Dye trades are dead ... for tonight, anyway.''
The Rays, Braves and Reds are among 10 teams to express interest in Dye. The White Sox already have traded Javier Vazquez and Nick Swisher, and are letting shortstop Orlando Cabrera leave as a free agent.
They'd consider dealing Dye, but surely not for fallen Reds pitching prospect Homer Bailey. They'd need a lot more than that for a middle-of-the-order hitter like Dye.
The White Sox are always one of the most aggressive, creative teams, so it will be interesting to see whether they will utilize all their new-found spending money.

maybe they ought to let Paulie and Thome go and pursue Texiera?

i understand the sox want to get younger and quicker, but they're trying to dump the wrong guy. konerko and thome are less effective players. dye has been the most consistent hitter on the team for the last couple of years. i guess the only knock on him is he's a slow fielder, but his bat is good enough to justify keeping him.

The Braves should bring Dye back. I thought they were stupid for letting him go in the first place.

Everybody keeps saying that the Sox should trade Konerko or Thome instead of Dye. Wake up people!!! Both Konerko and Thome have full no-trade rights. Dealing them will be tougher than trying to defend the latest Illinois Governor to be indicted.

i understand the whole thome, konerko argument, but who is going to take those salaries of not aging but the aged players. dye has the most value so might as well get what they can out of him while they can and make a move for brian roberts.

Jemaine Dye would have been a very good fit for the Mets three years ago when he was a free agent.

If they could move Dye for Bailey and another prospect it would be a good idea. This would let them have some money to sign a free agent. You can never have too much pitching plus Bailey fits the profile of Gavin Floyd, Matt Thornton, and Bobby Jenks talented pitchers who underachieved until Don Cooper helps turn them around.

...until Don Cooper turns them around???!!! I like Don a lot, but he's not the genius the press built him up to be in '05. sometimes I wonder if he's really anything special at all.
