Yeah, an 11 year career, but at least six of those years were on the DL. All kidding aside, I love Kerry to death, and he was a great teammate, a GREAT teammate (if he didn't smash Sammy's boombox no one did), but all good and not so good things end. He was always a tease as a starter and had aspects of the same as a closer. I wish him well. The Cubbies will be fine. They don't really miss Mark Prior, do they?

Obviously the Cubbies just didn't want Wood anymore. They told him that he deserves a long-term deal, they couldn't give that, he should go elsewhere. Now he gets 2 years in Cleveland?! The Cubs are going w Marmol as closer, a cheaper better and more dependable option (in their mind), and Gregg as the setup guy. I would have kept Wood on, but only as a setup guy.

Looks more and more like the Cubs simply wanted to move on w/o Wood. He wanted to stay and the Cubs said go and get a multi-year contract elsewhere because you deserve it and we cannot give it to you. Now he's going to sign a 2 year deal?! In Cleveland?! The Cubs see Marmol as their closer, got Gregg as the set-up guy, and simply had enough of Wood. I'd have loved to have kept Wood as a setup guy.

LAS VEGAS -- The Cleveland Indians are discussing a multi-year deal with free-agent closer Kerry Wood, and according to MLB.com, the two sides are "close" to a deal, but that has not been confirmed.

Wood has pitched his entire 11-year career with the Chicago Cubs, but the Cubs said they would not re-sign Wood this offseason after they made a trade last month to acquire reliever Kevin Gregg from the Florida Marlins.

Wood had not been a closer until this past season, when he notched the first save of his career. He finished with 34 saves, and was named to the All-Star team, but he also made yet another trip to the disabled list, this time for a blister.

The market for closers has finally started to move, with Francisco Rodriguez agreeing to a three-year contract with the New York Mets.
