LAS VEGAS -- The Padres and Cubs are still talking about a trade that would send right-hander Jake Peavy from San Diego to Chicago, but it will probably have to be a three or four team trade. A significant hurdle for the Cubs is that they want to pare some payroll before agreeing to take on Peavy, and that likely will entail moving starting pitcher Jason Marquis, who made almost $10 million last year. The Cubs have offered to pay about half of Marquis' contract, which will only save them about $5 million. The Cubs' payroll last year was $130 million and they'd like to keep it to $140 million for 2009. Peavy has four years and $63 million remaining on his current deal.
