<quoted-text>Boy, you are some kind of stupid. Number one: Lowell would ask for a trade if the Red Sox ever thought of making him a backup and Number two: Lowell can only play third base so even if he were making the league minimum they wouldn't keep him as a backup. That would be a waste of a roster spot on the Red Sox and a waste of a very talented player in Lowell. I would give Tex $200 million over ten years he is perfect for the Red Sox. They need a power hitter and he, like Lowell, is an immaculate professional, a great teammate and he wants to win.</quoted-text>

Dude, have you been paying attention, the Phillies will trade a reliever and an older prospect for him. You know the Red Sox are willing to pay some of his salary, the twins need a third baseman and have been shopping Michael Cuddyer which the Red Sox would love to have as their fourth outfielder. The Rangers have Travis Metcalf at third he's up and coming but not ready yet and needs to learn how to work that black thing fielders wear on their hands, I think it's called a glove, the Astros are shopping Ty Wigginton they could make a one for one deal with those two, and yeah, some of them are small market teams but the Red Sox are almost guaranteed to to pitch in on his salary.

I don't trust CC for a 7 year deal. I mean, the Yankees can swallow the costs if he gets hurt, but how many pitchers weighing as much as CC does have had his kind of luck of staying off of the DL? Plus -- and I say this objectively, not as some spurned Sox fan (because, really, the Sox were never really in the race for CC) -- his postseason numbers aren't very good.

And, come on, Yankees fans: are you honestly telling me that you'd be ecstatic to pay A.J. Burnett 60-65 million over 4 years? A.J. Burnett? We're talking about the same A.J. Burnett who has literally never posted an ERA below 3.60 before his first contract year (2005) and never won more than 12 games before his last contract year (2008)? I mean, he's honestly better than any of the young pitchers you've got in your farm system? And Derek Lowe . . . hey, I love the guy, and I think most teams would benefit from having him, but the guy wasn't incredibly dominant in the NL, and signing him would be bringing him back to face 3 of the 8 toughest lineups (BOS, TB, TOR) in the AL.

I said it back when the Yankees traded for A-Rod, and I'll say it again: they're going to SERIOUSLY regret not moving Jeter to 2B a couple years ago. Still, if the Yankees were smart, instead of trying to get another 1B type in Texiera (thus forcing them to trade Matsui, Damon, or Swisher because they wouldn't have enough at-bats at LF/1B/DH for them), they'd trade Cano for Kemp and spend their money on Orlando Hudson. Whatever Hudson can't do with hitting, he'd MORE than make up for in fielding.

LAS VEGAS -- Some baseball people are upset that about-to-be-Yankee CC Sabathia got a deal for about $160 million. But his still isn't likely to be the biggest deal of the winter. Two high-ranking baseball officials predicted that star free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira just might hit the reputed $200-million asking price.

At least two teams and perhaps more are believed to have already bid $160 million, and at least four teams still appear to be in the running. The Red Sox, Angels, Nationals and Orioles appear to be among the serious suitors for the switching-hitting star. Angels owner Arte Moreno told SI on Tueesday, "Teixeira's my guy,'' meaning he remained their top target.

Baseball people say Teixeira's agent, Scott Boras, is trying to make the case that Teixeira is closer on the superstar scale to Alex Rodriguez (who makes $30.5 million a year) than Torii Hunter ($18 million).
