The Yankees and Brewers are intending soon to resume talks involving centerfielders Mike Cameron and Melky Cabrera. However, the Yankees still see Cameron's $10-million salary as high and will continue to insist that Milwaukee either pick up a few million dollars or take Kei Igawa and some of his bloated contract off their hands.
Igawa has $12 million and three years to go on his deal. The Yankees would expect to pay the bulk of it, but are asking Milwaukee to pay some of it.
There's been an unusually high connection between the Brewers and Yankees this winter. Longtime Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets has drawn interest from the Yankees and could receive an offer if Yankees veteran Andy Pettitte rejects the teams' longstanding $10-million offer to him. The Yankees appear to be looking at Sheets and Derek Lowe, another star free agent, as targets should Pettitte never agree to their proposal.

This is the exact reason why myself and many other baseball fans hate the Yankees and everything they stand for. They just spent 240 million on two pitchers and now want the Brewers to help them out by picking up Camerons contract.

Apparently the Yankees didn't understand that it is absurd to ask the poorer Brewers to pay some of Mike Cameron's $10 million contract when the Yankees just signed CC Sabathia for $161 million!
However, some stubborness on the part of the Brewers is paying off and the Yankees are relenting a bit.
Here is my prediction: Cameron is solid for the Yankees and Melky becomes a decent everyday player for the Brewers. I don't think he will hit .290, but in the NL, I think .265 will be his normal production.
The Yankees may be in the Teixeira mix, but I can not imagine them actually signing him. It is just too much money! I still maintain that he will go to the Angels because the Red Sox like him but really have nowhere to put him. The Yankees are probably jacking up the price. Perhaps it will put the Angels out of the running for one of the second tier pitchers, although I would not be surprised if Ben Sheets ends up an Angel - because they have a really smart organization and he is the best bang for the buck on the market.

First of all the yankees payroll has gone down this offseason and second of all maybe you know nothing about they yankees and are just ignorant but the way theyve spent there money this offseason has been the most well planned spending spree in a decade...they let go Abreu Giambi and Pudge all 35 year old or above declining stars and brough in 2 starting pitchers Burnett(32) Sabathia(29) there payroll as of right now will be under 200 million so im not sure where you pulled 300 million out of but you should really do some better research before you begin to criticize

Hate them all you want, just explain to me what Sabathia's contract has to do with Cameron's? Whoever the Yankees did or didn't sign during free agency has absolutely nothing to do with the Cameron-Cabrera trade. These are seperate deals to be worked out on the merits of the players and contracts involved, not on anyone's feelings. This is a business, and just because the Yanks spent big on two signings doesn't mean they should just forget that in any other dealings they have. No other team or ownership group would, why should they?

Actually the Yankees are still around 40 million dollars under last years' salary even with the additions of Sabathia and Burnett. So like it or not, we have the money, and we will spend the money, deal with it. I like the move for Cameron. He's no big deal but he'll play a good center field and hit a few long balls. They need to look into a more permanent CF solution for the years to come....but for now, Cameron is alright. I think it's rather absurd to ask the Brewers to pick up part of Cameron's salary though. I think the Yankees need to add Manny Ramirez to protect A-rod in the lineup next year. If Alex bats third and you have revolving cleanup hitter that includes Posada, Nady, and Matsui, A-rod won't see a fastball all year.

This a ridiculous sentiment. It's business. Just because the Yanks have the money doesn't mean they should have to make an uneven trade. The bottom line is- Cameron at $10M for Cabrera and another player is a not really a fair deal from business perspective.

Know your facts. Yankees took off $88.5 mill off the books in 2008 and will take off another $26 mill in 2009. They have spent $23 per on CC and $16.5 per on AJ = $39.5 per. That is still $49 mill less than 2008 when their payroll was around $210 million = $161 million. So they pick up Cameron, Sheets, Teixeira-or-Manny... still less than 2008. Even less after 2009.

I'm sure the $300 million was just an exaggeration to make a point. Settle down and stop crying. We can all agree the payroll will be obscene.

calm down little buddy, it won't even be 200 million.... even still, maybe you clowns should put more effort into LOVING your own team rather than HATING the Yanks...... don't hate the yanks for doing what you wish your team would do..... we are just lucky to have an owner and a front office that cares about their fan base and WINNING, if you want to cry to someone, cry to your own teams because instead of investing money in their own team they just pocket the money they get from the yanks lux tax......
