Too busy to post much today. Hungover from last night. I am not Jewish, to answer a comment from last night. I still stand by my source and the info. Teixeira family got a kick out of the stories about the posts. To answer beantown, he had offers from everyone and the highest Sox offer actually came in on Sunday so its been there awhile.

Have fun trying to tear my post apart. Must be frustrating to doubt me but hold the thought in the back of your mind that I may be right. Talk to you Saturday after the report goes public.

I would love to pick up Manny to compete against the Sox, who will most likely will get Tex. I would pay big bucks to see Manny's first game at Fenway in pinstripes. I would go 3 years at $25M per year with a 4th year club option. Manny would hustle the first 3 years.

Snotboy's got a point about Adrian Gonzalez, but Sandman you completely made my day by proving that Im not the only yankee fan in the entire freaking world who realizes there are viable pitching options on bad teams that would be exponentially better with a little run support ie. Zach Greinke.

I cant say that i am "dissappointed" with offseason moves thus far because i mean hey we did get CC, and i am sick and tired of watching Burnett make my billion dollar offense look like a bad LL team everytime he pitches against us. I would like to see a little more creativity tho. I mean hell you give me the yankees checkbook and I could go out and get AJ Burnett and CC Sebathia. What about the deals for underappreciated players that typical fans have no idea about, but are what actually wins championships. Scott Brosius, Charlie Hayes, an old broken down Cecil Fielder. These were guys that if discussed today the vast majority of fans would want no part of but funny thing is THEY HELPED WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS. When will I finally hear talk of getting productive young roleplayers like a Zack Greinke, or a Nate Mclouth, and finally stop getting expensive and annoyingly simple-minded patch jobs like Randy Johnson, Mike Cameron, Kenny Lofton, Gary Sheffield, and Ivan Rodriguez. Please Cash stop being so pathetically reactive and try being proactive. You look like a complete amateur playing with waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money

and to pretty much completely contradict myself. I do LOVE manny ramirez and am praying that hes wearing pinstripes come april. I know, understand, and acknowledge all arguments against it but my gut tells me its a good move.

The yanks should skip manny and texiaera. They should also skip Cameron. They should sign FA jim Edmonds to a 2-year deal and he could split time and teach Gardner about CF. He still has pop in his bat and can play CF just as good as Cameron. Then take Cabrera, Kennedy, and Aceves and trade them to San Diego for 1B Adrian Gonzalez. This would free up Swisher to play several OF/1B position and solidify the bench and give the Yankees a chepaer 1B thats arguably just as good as Teixera.

Kingfisher,

To get back to my point, I know the Yankees need pitching and they could have gone for Lowe, Sheets and brought back Pettitte. Or they could have gotten creative and tried to get Matt Cain from SF for Cano/Kennedy or Greinke from KC for a package of talent. What I said is pitching could have been had without spending a quarter of a billion dollars.

As far as their lineup--

Damon
Cano
Jeter
A-Rod
Posada
Nady
Matsui
Swisher
Gardner

is far from all-stars at every position. Maybe a long time ago. This lineup doesn't have a legit #3 hitter, no protection for A-Rod, major questions with Matsui, Posada, Gardner, Swisher, Cano, Nady and possibly Damon and no speed with the exception of Damon, Gardner, Jeter?, A-Rod?.

They need Teixera and they don't need the Flake. They could win with Wang, Lowe, Sheets, Joba/Hughes and Pettitte with a good lineup. With the current lineup, they might not win with CC, Wang, AJ, Joba/Hughes, Pettitte/Lowe. They need to make up 400 runs to match '07's production. Where are they going to come from? Having Matsui, Posada back and a full year of Nady, Swisher will help, but not 400 runs. Like I said, look for a lot of 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3 losses this year.

Yank-ee,
I am talking about it on the message boards because I am at the office and we are having a yearly audit for the DLLR. That means that I sit at my desk and watch the state of Maryland Financial Regulation auditor go through my files to make sure I am in compliance. I have to be here but I can't really do much other than sit and go online.

I talked to Tex's parents this weekend and thats when I got in the loop. I have until 6:30pm when the audit is over and I can leave to go to dinner.

Before he can get a new contract, Manny Ramirez may have to wait for Mark Teixeira to sign first. Photo: Icon SMI

The Manny Market appears to depend on the Teixeira Sweepstakes.

The Yankees are in on the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes but don't appear overly optimistic to outbid the determined Angels or Red Sox. Should the Yankees lose out for Teixeira, who's drawing interest from the perennially also-ran Nationals and Orioles in addition to the three aforementioned clubs, they seem ready to pounce for Manny Ramirez.

There are those suggesting the Yankees are only in the running for Teixeira to either monitor the rival Red Sox or drive up the price for the switch-hitting slugger. But while it's true the Yankees don't appear as eager to sign Teixeira as the Angels and Red Sox, they do appear willing to sign him at the right price. After already signing CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett for $243.5 million combined, the Yankees appear disinclined to offer $200 million for Teixeira, which is what it may take to get him.

That's where Manny may come in.

While the Yankees have a trio of accomplished corner outfielders -- Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui and Xavier Nady -- they appear to love the idea of Manny and could still utilize Damon in centerfield on occasion.

If Teixeira goes to the Red Sox, Ramirez's market becomes that much better because the Angels become a possibility for his services as well as the Yankees and incumbent Dodgers. If Teixeira stays in Anaheim, Ramirez loses a little leverage since the Red Sox don't want him back. Boston's resolve to win Teixeira is heightened since they don't have a viable fallback option like Ramirez.

Teixeira's agent, Scott Boras, has been telling teams he envisions Teixeira closer to Alex Rodriguez ($27.5 million, or $30.5 million annually, depending whether you count the performance bonuses) than Torii Hunter ($18 million), and baseball people believe Teixeira will surely beat the $20-million mark, and perhaps even CC Sabathia's $23-million salary.

All the teams in the bidding for Teixeira are thought to be in for eight years, or more.
