The New York Mets are among the teams in contract discussions with Derek Lowe. The veteran right-hander is a free agent again after spending the past four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now the Mets are making a serious effort to secure his services.

In 2008, Lowe was 14-11 with a 3.24 ERA and surpassed the 200-innings mark for the third time in four seasons. Lowe is expected to command an annual salary somewhere between Ryan Dempster's $13 million and A.J. Burnett's $16.5 million.

The Braves, Dodgers, Angels, Red Sox, Yankees and Phillies all have expressed interest this winter in Lowe, who is believed to be leaning toward coming back East. The Yankees are awaiting Andy Pettitte's decision to accept an offer.

The Boston Globe first reported the Mets' renewed talks with Lowe.
