I like Abreu's consistency and ability to stay on the field. But he won't go near padded walls, so you can you imagine him at Wrigley. That fact alone plus he's very laid back (and he ain't changin' his style for Lou) could cause a clash. Bradley can't stay healthy and putting 2 guys with temper issues together usually ends up badly. Dunn's demands may be the reason its quiet on that front so far. Whoever signs has major deficiencies in at least one area of their game, so it will add be interesting to see how well it plays out this season and the years to come on the contract.

why not Dunn? ya want power numbers, he has them at wrigley...he is a Kingman-esque slugger, sans the jerk-mentality Kong was, whiffs alot, but has consistently socked over 40 homers the past 4 seasons[ think it is 4],and would likely come close to 50-plus if he played 81 games in Wrigley.
Trade Soriano to the Angels.btw, and get Figgins in return, lose some salary for a guy who`s best days came and went. And why does nobody have faith in Hoffpauer, alefty hit machine with power, same guy who totally ripped the cover off the ball in Iowa last yr?
CC is so fat,he wont make it through 3seasons before back surgery and a stomach stapling job

My ideal lineup right now (assuming the Cubs sign Bradley) is:

1. Fukudome/Johnson CF
2. Theriot SS
3. Lee 1B
4. Ramirez 3B
5. Bradley RF
6. Soriano LF
7. Soto C
8. Fontenot 2B

That roughly sprinkles the lefties throughout, but I doubt Soriano would want to hit as low as 6th in the lineup. I also wouldn't mind seeing Lee hit in the 2-hole because his power numbers have gone down but he's still a valuable hitter...and all those "Cubs fans" who want Lee traded are out of their minds. He's gold glove 1B, steady, leads by example and he's patient and can hit for power. He just needs to hit the ball in the air more. Cubs still could use a *true* leadoff hitter to replace Fukudome/Johnson platoon...it would be nice if Gathright could become that. This is a team definitely poised to threepeat in the NL Central...the playoffs are a whole different ballgame.

Sweet Lou needs to man up and remind Sori-outo, or Soriano that he is the coach. Soriano is no lead off hitter never has been never will be. He should bat 3rd then let him swing away. Heck every time he tried to bunt the runner over he got hurt. The number 2 hitter must be able to bunt the ball on the darn ground.

I'm as big a DeRosa fan as anyone else, but let's be realistic. He's an awesome utility player, but should never be anything else. He's a career backup. He had one good year and Cubs fans act like he's the second coming of Jesus. DeRosa had one good year, while Bradley has been steadily rising the last three years. And he'll come cheap due to his past attitude problems, which every indication out of Texas is that those problems were gone last year.

if i had my say with the cubs, reed johnson would be my starting center fielder - not just a platoon guy - and he would be leading off. i thought he did a nice job in that role when soriano was out, and even though he's not ideal, he does work the count very well. drop soriano to fifth behind ramirez. i wouldn't sign bradley, he's a total jerk and paying him for his career year is silly. i'd package the three guys from the derosa trade with pie and see if i could land someone like markakis from baltimore, mclouth from pittsburgh, or dejesus from kansas city. then sign juan cruz and dennys reyes. the pen would be set, pie wouldn't be lost for nothing (which will probably happen now with the gathright signing), we'd get a very good lefty bat that wasn't a slouch in the field, and have an excellent chance to win.

The Cubs have been the most active team heading into the New Year, but they have one more big move to go in the coming days, and that is to sign a rightfielder. Their target is Milton Bradley.

While the Cubs deserve the night off after signing second baseman Aaron Miles and trading infielder Mark DeRosa to the Indians for three pitching prospects, the Cubs will soon try to sign Bradley. They saved some money by dealing starter Jason Marquis on Wednesday, and also by replacing DeRosa with Miles, and perhaps that will give them the room they need to add a productive right fielder -- namely, Bradley. The Cubs have considered Bobby Abreu and perhaps Adam Dunn, as well, but with the shaky Alfonso Soriano in leftfield, they'd prefer a better defensive player in right field.

Bradley, who hit .321 with 22 home runs and 77 RBIs while resurrecting his career and reputation with Texas, has been seeking a three-year deal. Had his rep been spotless, though, he might have been able to get five years or more, based on his recent productivity. He led the American League in 2008 in on-base percentage (.436) and OPS (.999).
