<intro>
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Andruw Jones have agreed to rework his contract to save the team $12 million off its 2009 payroll, SI.com has learned. The deal likely will lead to Jones playing elsewhere next year.

The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the sides were working on such an arranagement.

With Jones agreeing to defer more than half his $20 million salary to aid the team, it stands to reason that the team will agree to part ways with him at some point. Jones expressed a desire to the Dodgers that he'd like to play elsewhere in 2009.
</intro>

I heard Jones' hitting coach on the radio last season saying that Jones could fix his problem. But that meant that Jones would have to see that there is a real problem with the techniques and that he would need to put in the time to fix them. He didn't seem too confident in that happening and I don't really think that with his continual slide last year and his whale blubber this guy should be anywhere near a ball field... and I would say that I can't wait to see C.C. in the playoffs again, but the Yankmees aren't gonna be there anyway...

Unfortunately, Jason Stitch still has one year left on his contract. One other observation...although Manny got a lot of the credit for the Dodger's surge at the end of the season, the team didn't really start playing real well until Kent went on the DL(and out of the clubhouse) for a few weeks. Coincidence? I think not.

          <quoted-text>Looking forward to fat boy Sabathia blowing out his shoulder (after how Milwaukee used him last year, don't be surprised). Burnett is an injury waiting to happen, and a 4+ ERA guy when healthy. Jeter is slipping offensively, and he's a terrible defensive SS. Gay-Rod is a choke artist. Besides Mariano, the Spankees bullpen is dogshit. Melky "I hit like a 10 year old girl" Cabrera is still your center fielder. Hor-hay Posada is 93 years old. So yeah, congrats on spending $500 mil this year (and doing it while the Spankees are asking the city for MORE tax dollars to fund the stadium...idiots). Tex is a hell of a ballplayer, but he's not worth that kind of money. Nobody is. Hate on Boston all you want, but there's a reason they have 2 rings in the last 4 years. Great farm system, 100 times better than Noo Yawk's. Great defensive team. Excellent starting pitching. Good bullpen. I know you're all excited about Fat Boy and Burnett, but what have either of them done in the playoffs...ever?When the Yankees were at their best and Torre coached them to a few rings, they didn't go out and spend that kind of money. They won with guys like Paul O'Neill, Jim Leyritz, and Scott Brosius. Argue with me all you want, but you can't argue with the fact that they were a better TEAM when they developed their own guys and didn't try to have 25 All-Stars.</quoted-text>

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Andruw Jones have agreed to rework his contract to save the team $12 million off its 2009 payroll, SI.com has learned. The deal likely will lead to Jones playing elsewhere next year.

The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the sides were working on such an arrangement.

With Jones agreeing to defer more than half his $20 million salary to aid the team, it stands to reason that the team will agree to part ways with him at some point. Jones expressed a desire to the Dodgers that he'd like to play elsewhere in 2009.

The agreement between Jones and the Dodgers could save the club additional monies and perhaps enhance its chances to retain free-agent superstar Manny Ramirez. The Dodgers got company Friday in the chase for Ramirez, as the Giants have joined the bidding.

The Dodgers actually have done a terrific job of paring their payroll already this winter, as they are expected to lose free agents Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, Joe Beimel, Nomar Garciaparra and Jeff Kent.
