Where will Manny land in 2009? Jed Jacobsohn/Getty

    The Giants have entered the bidding for free-agent superstar Manny Ramirez, SI.com has confirmed.

    KPIX-TV reported Friday that the Giants have made a three-year offer with an option for a fourth year.

    The Dodgers remain interested in Ramirez, and a bidding contest between the two great West Coast rivals could loom. The Dodgers originally offered the slugging savant $45 million over two years, but later withdrew that offer. They will have to do better than that to have chance to retain his services.

    While the Angels have suggested publicly that they won't be bidding for Ramirez, some baseball people aren't writing them off. There also appears to be one or two other American League teams on the periphery of the bidding. The Yankees, after signing Mark Teixeira to an eight-year, $180-million contract, are not among them.
</intro>

I think the San Francisco Giants will offer Manny a big buck that's why dispite of Barry Zito's contract and will have an option in the 4th year if performance he is on great shape. But if the LA Dodgers still talking to renew the talk for Manny to match the offer for the giants. The Dodgers will probably to top the offer and they will go for it. Watch it!!!!!

It's funny what people remember. Lets deal with facts, Manny is an adequate outfielder just catch what comes at you. he does that. give me 320 BA, 35hr, and 120 RBI's anyday he does that, get me to the playoffs, (Cleveland, Boston, Dodgers) he does that and most important of all bring that clutch playoff bat and it seems that 4 yrs at 20 mil or so is a bargain. A Rod's contract is up at 42 (what has he won) and people won't pay Manny til 41 what a joke. Who ever gets him is a contender for sure.

When is SI going to fire Heyman and hire a sports REPORTER, not a shill for Scott Bora$$?

Heyman says in a column today that baseball is immune to an economic downturn because their revenues are locked in. That is a flat out lie. Sure their TV contracts are set for a few years and season tickets are sold for this coming year, but if TV stations start losing their shirts on baseball you better believe they will demand to renegotiate. I'll bet that the Yankees and Mets lose a ton of season ticket holders in 2010...and that Citibank will eventually be forced to renege on the bulk of the Mets stadium naming fee. Small market teams are already cutting ticket prices. The downside for teams such as the Red Sox and Yankees that own their TV network is that when the TV stations lose money, so do they.

But Bora$$ needs to convince teams that they can afford to pay silly money to his clients, so he gets his mouthpiece Heyman to write a column that he can then cite as proof.
