<intro>
The Yankees are fielding trade offers for corner outfielders Xavier Nady and Nick Swisher. There's been some speculation they might consider trading Hideki Matsui, too, but he has a full no-trade clause and is coming off knee surgery, so there's really no way to trade him.

A logjam at the corners was created when the Yankees surprised a lot of folks and signed Mark Teixeira to an eight-year, $180 million contract. Swisher previously had been penciled in as the Yankees' first baseman but now becomes part of a crowded mix of accomplished corner outfielders. Swisher is a versatile player and can play some center field, as well. Some National League teams may be interested. However, Nady's trade value is higher after a better offensive season, so he may be just as likely to be dealt. Nady, acquired by the Yankees in a midseason trade with the Pirates, combined to hit .305 with 25 home runs and 97 RBIs for the year, while Swisher finished at .219 with 24 home runs and 69 RBIs for the White Sox before being dealt to the Yankees after the season.

Johnny Damon isn't in the trade mix, as the Yankees need him to be their leadoff hitter and part of a center field rotation. The other in-house candidates for center field are Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner.
</intro>

Jeter's got to go - to another position! he's no longer a major league calibre SS. He's got no range and now even f***s up the balls hit right at him. He's still above average at the dish and is revered by fans and teammates alike, but he's no SS. Get Michael Young and move JETER to 2nd, Cano to CF or trade him. Move Joba back to the pen.

Manny is not needed, that lineup is kick-butt now. They need to have a reliable plan in case Posada can't come back. Teams will be running on him from the get go to test him out. If I could grab Cashmans ear I would suggest going for Saltamacchia from the Rangers. Worse case is Matsui is a role player on the bench, Posada at DH.

Manny's no saint for what he did to the Sox, but as far as being a distraction, how about Babe Ruth's antics? Or Mantle, Martin, Ford's behavior? Or the "Italian Stallion", Joe Pepitone? Anyone remember the "Straw that stirs the drink" Jackson? Puhleeze! I'm a purist, but also a realist. Whether the Yankees sign Manny or not won't change the "sanctity" of baseball. Moreover, anyone who is a REAL Yankee fan won't stop rooting for them, nor will anyone who isn't a Yankee fan like them because they don't sign him. The only question that teh Yankees will really ponder is: will signing Manny help us get another WS title? In the end I think they'll answer "Yes" and sign him.

As to trading anyone they have, they should really try to unload Matsui and Nady. Matsui because he's all but done, even as a DH. Nady because they can get the most they'll probably ever get for him now. Keep Swisher...he's young and versatile. I still say make every attempt to land a stud CF, whether they get Manny or not. Failing that, I like what ny2tx78 posted above about getting Hanley Ramirez and moving Jeter to CF.

Finally, I agree that we need a 5th starter to allow Joba to go back to the pen where he's a natural and ultimate successor to Mo. I think Sheets would be worthwhile getting for that spot.

You are absolutely right. I hate it when I hear that Manny wouldn't fit in with the polished image of the Yankees. Give me a break. This is a team that had Billy Martin and Reggie fighting it out in the dugout for years. Babe was a womanizer, Mantle was a drunk. Who cares? They played great baseball, helped the Yanks win, or so would Manny.

CC and Burnett as even for Moose and Andy?/ What are you smoking and could you send me some? Both of those are significant upgrades over those 2 and with Wang , Joba and Hughes/Kennedy/Sheets?( maybe). Thats a real solid Starting rotation. Why do I mention Sheets? If his price continues to drop there has been limited interest as is, the Yankmes would probably take a flyer on him. Gawd I hate the Yankmes.....but they run a world class organization.
