The Hall of Fame is not about stats. Bert Blyleven is high on many lists -e.g. wins and k's because he was a very good pitcher for many years. He was never a dominant player though, making the All-Star team just twice. Pedro was Koufax like from 1997-2004. The numbers he put up during those eight seasons were so far beyond what anyone else was doing - sub 2.00 ERA's during the peak of the steriod era. He was as close to unhittable as a pitcher could be at that point. He is every bit Hall worthy.

Pedro?

He's over. Unless . . . he go the Dennis Eckersly route. Try pitching relief. Not necessarily closing, but a good 7th-8th inning guy, which is important to a team. He could go another 3-4 years doing that.
He WAS a great pitcher. I'd love to see him pitching well in a different situation. And he seems to have a good attitude. Doesn't he? I'm not in N.Y., but I'm hoping so. We need more warmth and humor in baseball to balance out the coldness of all the money.

Trooper707

Koufax HAD to retire at 31, in his prime, and it was an awesome prime. Also, he was on a team that did not score many runs. The Dodgers in those years were all pitching. All of the players at that time have said--Frank Robinson, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, among them--that Koufax was in a realm of his own in an era that had several great pitchers. Sometimes you just don't look at numbers to determine the quality of a player. Phil Nierko was a 300 game winner and was NEVER considered a dominant pitcher. He just pitched a long time--got into the HOF--which was a joke. Even Nolan Ryan was graced with good health, pitching for what 25 years? Amazing. His over-all won/lost record was something like 13-12. He almost lost 300 games to go with the 300 wins.
I understand there is a new set of stats now for this--taking into account how long a guy plays, as opposed to flat stats. Good idea. Have a good season pal, whomever you're rooting for.

Pedro's longtime agent Fern Cuza told SI.com a couple weeks ago that four teams were showing interest in the Cooperstown-bound pitcher at the time.
